Coach Akira Ijiri shared: “The team will have a training trip in Japan from May 7 to 18 and plan to have 4-5 friendly matches. In this training session, the team has some new players, so we need to add more tactics. However, the main addition is still individual skills. We need to improve the ability to pass the ball, receive the ball, dribble the ball and basic skills for the future of the players in the next 3 to 5 years.”
The players will have a useful training trip in Japan.
In the second qualifying round of the 2024 AFC U20 Women's Championship, Vietnam's U20 Women's Team is in Group A with opponents Australia's U20 Women's Team, Iran's U20 Women's Team and Lebanon's U20 Women's Team. Meanwhile, Group B includes 4 names: China's U20 Women's Team, Myanmar's U20 Women's Team, Nepal's U20 Women's Team and Chinese Taipei's U20 Women's Team. It can be seen that in Group A, Australia's U20 Women's Team is the most highly rated opponent to advance, so Vietnam's U20 Women's Team will most likely compete for the remaining ticket with Iran's U20 Women's Team and Lebanon's U20 Women's Team.
Coach Akira Ijiri affirmed that the goal of this tournament is to pass the second qualifying round and aim for the AFC U20 Women's Championship: "The opponents in this group are all strong opponents. Up to now, the Australian women's team is the strongest, but Iran and Lebanon have also been very strong in recent years. This will be a quite difficult qualifying round."

Previously, in the first qualifying round of the 2024 AFC U20 Women's Championship, the Vietnam U20 women's team was in the same group with India, Singapore and Indonesia. Coach Akira Ijiri's students opened with a 3-0 win over Indonesia on the opening day, then beat Singapore 11-0 and drew 1-1 with India in the final match. Despite having the same score (7) as the India U20 women's team, the Vietnam U20 women's team topped the group thanks to a better goal difference (+14 compared to +13), thereby winning the only ticket to the second qualifying round.
The Vietnam U20 women's team with 30 players has been training for a week at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center from May 2 to 7, before leaving for Japan for training on the evening of May 7.
