Both U23 Cambodia and U23 Laos started the match quite cautiously, but a surprise happened when U23 Laos was the team that played more confidently and held the ball well in the first minutes.
In the 18th minute, midfielder Phousomboun Panyavong (born in 2007) created a breakthrough moment. He skillfully dribbled past the Cambodian defender and then unleashed a dangerous shot, opening the score for U23 Laos.
U23 Cambodia fell behind early but could not create clear pressure throughout the first half. They did not have a single shot on target, while U23 Laos organized many sharp counter-attacks and almost increased the score.
In the second half, U23 Cambodia played better and their efforts were rewarded. In the 57th minute, defender Phat Sokha charged forward, dribbling past the Lao defense before making a beautiful diagonal shot, equalizing the score 1-1.
In the remaining time, the two teams played tit for tat, creating a few more dangerous opportunities but lacking precision in the finishing moves.
The 1-1 draw left both U23 Laos and U23 Cambodia facing a big challenge in the race for a ticket to the semi-finals, especially when the next opponent is U23 Vietnam.
