The U23 Thailand team just lost to U23 Hong Kong (China) - ranked 153rd with a score of 2-3 in an international friendly match on the occasion of FIFA Day in June at Thammasat Stadium. Despite a strong fight at the end of the match and scoring 2 goals, the 'War Elephants' lost 3 goals in the first half and had to accept defeat.
Entering the match, the two teams started off excitingly, U23 Hong Kong (China) unexpectedly opened the score in the 23rd minute with a quick counter-attack. Matthew Slattery was the first to receive the ball and then lifted it over the goalkeeper's head, opening the score 1-0.
In the 30th minute, U23 Hong Kong (China) continued to attack from the right wing, Anthony Pinto finished accurately to double the gap. Before the end of the match, Yeung Chak Kwan jumped high to head the third goal, helping U23 Hong Kong lead 3-0 in the 40th minute.
In the second half, from a free kick, Thirkwin Jansri narrowed the score to 1-3 for U23 Thailand in the 59th minute. Just one minute later, Major Manikon Jensen scored the second goal, helping U23 Thailand narrow the gap to 2-3.
However, in the remaining time, U23 Thailand still could not score more goals and had to accept a narrow 2-3 defeat against U23 Hong Kong in the FIFA Day friendly match.
