Accordingly, the update includes smart categorization and easy content search features, which have been provided on mobile platforms, will appear on the Mac application.

Bloomberg 's Mark Gurman said the new feature will be introduced on computers next April, specifically with the macOS 15.3 update.

Basic categories categorize all emails into four groups: Primary is for personal conversations and things that need immediate attention, Promotions is for promotions and discounts, Updates is mostly related to social notifications and news, while Transactions is where shopping-related alerts are collected.

Users can apply the new feature to any sender in their inbox, or turn it off by switching back to the classic list view.

Previously, the Mail app on macOS has been upgraded with AI such as Smart Reply, Priority Messages, email summaries, and previews of incoming messages.

Another notable Apple Intelligence feature in Mail is Writing Tools. Powered by OpenAI's ChatGPT technology, the tool allows users to compose, edit, rewrite, spell-check, and rearrange text content.

However, the email sorting system has received mixed reviews. On the one hand, it helps to declutter the inbox, sorting emails neatly and putting all the important conversations into separate groups.

However, some users have expressed concerns about this feature on their iPhones and are looking for ways to revert back to the old interface. The reason is not simply an aesthetic issue but also related to functional issues.

“After upgrading to iOS 18.2 with its new categorization feature, I quickly realized that it complicated rather than simplified my digital life. For example, some emails that should have gone into my primary inbox were instead put into random categories,” shared Digital Trends writer Bryan M. Wolfe.

Furthermore, the system is also rigid as users cannot create additional independent categories for emails.

If Bloomberg 's report is accurate, Apple still has time to evaluate initial feedback and fix existing issues before rolling out the sorting feature to the Mail app for Mac.
