Drinking water from plastic bottles can cause heart disease and high blood pressure?

Drinking from plastic bottles can release microplastic particles into the body. Research shows that these particles affect blood pressure and cause serious cardiovascular problems, according to Earth.com.

Dr Johanna Fischer from the Faculty of Medicine, Danube University (Austria) said some recent findings have sparked debate about what microplastics can do when circulating in the blood, including cardiovascular problems and high blood pressure.

Micro particles Plastic causes cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure

Plastics have improved modern life in countless ways, but the cost of this convenience is becoming increasingly clear. Microplastics form from the breakdown of larger plastics, or from familiar items like tires and synthetic clothing.

Microplastics have been detected in food, drinking water and air. Scientists have found microplastics in the placenta, some internal organs and even in the blood, which can trigger inflammatory responses or cause hormonal imbalances.

Recent studies have revealed a surprising link to high blood pressure and heart disease. The investigation found that plastic bottles can release microplastic particles into the liquid we drink.

Preliminary findings suggest that microplastics can enter the circulatory system and affect blood pressure readings. Researchers have also found microplastic fragments in glass bottles, further complicating efforts to avoid exposure.

The findings suggest that the problem is not limited to visible plastic waste, but also requires other methods to monitor exposure levels.

Avoid using bottled drinks. plastic

Eight healthy adults took part in a project to explore the link between microplastics and blood pressure.

Participants were asked to drink only tap water instead of bottled water for about a month. Their blood pressure was measured at baseline, after two weeks, and after four weeks.

The results showed that blood pressure in women tended to decrease significantly, while in men there was no significant change.

One possible explanation is that only three men participated in the study, which is too small a number to draw general conclusions. However, the overall data suggests that reducing plastic exposure may impact cardiovascular health by limiting the number of microplastic particles entering the bloodstream.

The team stressed that larger trials are needed. They aim to measure actual concentrations of microplastics in the blood to get a clearer picture of the impact of microplastic exposure on blood pressure.

“After extensive research, we conclude that the consumption of plastic bottled beverages should be avoided,” the team warned. The observed changes in blood pressure suggest that reducing microplastic intake could help reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease.

Scientists note that lower levels of plastic exposure appear to be associated with improvements in some blood pressure measures. Although the study was conducted on a small group, the results are seen as motivation for further investigation.

While the exact mechanism is still unclear, the impact of microplastics on blood pressure and overall cardiovascular health is a reason to reconsider our habit of using common plastic products.

The study was published in the journal Microplastics .
