Facing a strong opponent like Real Madrid, Al Hilal was not afraid and entered the game very confidently. They created many dangerous situations for Courtois' goal. In the 19th minute, Lodi scored against Real Madrid but the goal was disallowed due to offside.
After that, Al Hilal continued to create some dangerous opportunities but could not take advantage of them. In the 34th minute, from a quick counter-attack, Rodrygo made a very smart pass for Gonzalo Garcia to escape and shoot from close range to score, helping Real Madrid lead 1-0.
But just four minutes later, Real Madrid were awarded a penalty after Asencio pulled down Marcos Leonardo in the box. From the 11m mark, Ruben Neves easily defeated Courtois to equalize 1-1.
In the first minutes of the second half, Real Madrid continuously launched dangerous attacks. The highlight was Guler's shot hitting the crossbar, followed by Asencio's high header from close range, but goalkeeper Bono saved the goal right on the goal line.
In the 53rd minute, Real Madrid's defense was careless, giving Marcos Leonardo a chance to shoot from a tight angle, but the ball went wide. In the 90+2 minute, Al Qahtani swung his arm at Fran Garcia in the penalty area and the referee, after checking VAR, awarded Real Madrid a penalty. Unfortunately, Valverde could not beat goalkeeper Bono on the 11m mark.
