Faced with the serious flood situation in Cao Bang, Lang Son , Thai Nguyen provinces and many northern mountainous localities, causing road traffic to be cut off, Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation (VATM) has directed its affiliated units, especially the Northern Air Traffic Management Company, to closely coordinate with the Air Defense - Air Force to ensure absolute safety for humanitarian relief flights.

On October 8, VATM flight operations units coordinated effectively to ensure safety for 14 takeoffs and landings of helicopter flights transporting relief goods from Hoa Lac, Kep and Gia Lam airports to isolated areas in Cao Bang, Thai Nguyen and Lang Son.

Flights carried out by the 918th Air Brigade and the 916th Air Regiment carried dozens of tons of essential goods including food, medicine, clean water, life jackets and necessities, transported to areas that ground vehicles could not reach due to rising floodwaters.

According to the Ministry of National Defense, on the same morning, three Mi-171 and Mi-17 helicopters of the Air Defense - Air Force took off from Gia Lam airport, carrying more than 4 tons of relief goods to completely isolated communes in Lang Son and Cao Bang. In conditions of deep flooding and bad weather, many flights were forced to drop goods from the air, requiring coordination and providing navigation information to be carried out accurately and absolutely safely.

As the agency responsible for operating civil and military flights in the airspace assigned to it, VATM has proactively deployed and coordinated synchronously between regional air traffic control centers, aviation meteorological agencies, and the Flight Command Board at Hoa Lac, Kep, and Gia Lam airports to ensure safety and smooth operation of these special flights.

Air traffic controllers at the Hanoi Area Control Center (ACC Hanoi), the Approach Control Center at Noi Bai Airport and forward flight control stations always keep abreast of the actual situation, continuously update meteorological information and air traffic conditions, coordinate flexible air traffic flows, and provide maximum support to flight crews in conditions of heavy rain, low clouds and limited visibility.

The relief flights on October 8 were not only a routine task in the coordination of military-civilian flight operations, but also had profound humanitarian significance, demonstrating the sense of responsibility, professional capacity and dedication of the Vietnamese flight management team in times of emergency.

Every precise command, every timely guidance information, every smooth coordination between air traffic control and air force contributes to bringing "Humanitarian flights" to people affected by storms and floods, spreading the spirit of mutual love and community of the Vietnamese aviation industry.

This humanitarian relief flight operation once again affirms the core role of VATM in ensuring safety and effectively operating the Fatherland's skies, serving political, defense and humanitarian tasks in line with its mission: Ensuring absolute safety for all flights under any circumstances.
