To increase connectivity and meet the needs of enjoying exciting basketball matches with sports- loving audiences, the professional basketball league (VBA) changes the competition format to extend the 2023 season with some innovations in the model and schedule. Accordingly, the tournament will be divided into 2 stages in the group stage (centralized, home - away).
Entering the 8th season, VBA 5x5 2023 will kick off on June 10 in Hanoi . It is expected that a total of 74 matches will be held in a centralized competition model combining home and away matches with 7 teams competing in VBA such as: Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Nha Trang, Da Nang and Can Tho.
VBA increases the number of matches in the 2023 season to 74 matches
In the group stage, VBA will have 63 matches taking place from June 10 to September 3, 2023. This year's group stage will be different when the teams will meet each other 3 times instead of 2 times like VBA 2022, increasing the total number of group stage matches by 50% compared to last year.
In particular, 21 additional matches in the group stage will be held in a centralized competition model at Cau Giay Stadium (35 Tran Quy Kien, Cau Giay District, Hanoi) from June 10 to 30. For the remaining matches of the season, VBA will organize them in a home-away model in the localities of the 7 clubs.
In this year's season, VBA will apply the regulations of VBA 5x5 in 2022 and each team will not be allowed to have more than 3 overseas Vietnamese and foreign players (1 foreign player, 2 overseas Vietnamese or 2 foreign players, 1 overseas Vietnamese).
In particular, VBA has added a change in the age of athletes in the youth training program from U20 to U18, applicable from this year's season.
