Every time you have the opportunity to visit the fairy-tale countryside of Ngoc Chien commune, Muong La district, in addition to witnessing the miraculous changes of the land and people of the land of hawthorn flowers, hot mineral springs, the fresh and cool climate all year round, surrounded by ancient po mu stilt houses, friendly people... visitors can also enjoy the delicious and fatty stream fish that only Ngoc Chien has, which is the humpback carp specialty.

According to Mr. Lo Van Phang, Owner of Huong Rung Homestay, Ngoc Chien Commune, humpback carp can only grow in Chien stream, with a cold, clear, clean water environment, because the fish mainly eats moss and algae, the largest fish is about 1-2 taels, round body, blue-black scales, humpback. Previously, fish were caught naturally by locals in Chien stream, now to meet the enjoyment needs of tourists visiting, experiencing, and staying in the commune, locals have multiplied the fish, raised them on Nam Chien hydroelectric lake with a cold, clean water environment, the fish grow very well, bringing significant income to locals.

With the desire to develop on a large scale, many households have brought fish to Son La hydroelectric lake to try to raise them but failed, because humpback carp can only live in highland environments, cold water, and well-ventilated currents. Currently, Ngoc Chien commune is planning to call on investors to coordinate with local people to build many humpback carp farming models on Chien stream to build brands, OCOP products, and as gifts to promote to tourists near and far.

Processing humpback carp is also simple, you can clean the intestines (gourmets leave the fish whole without gutting it) then fry, grill, cook sour soup or sticky rice, steam... all are delicious, but the best is still rubbing white salt, grilling on a wood stove. Humpback carp is very fatty, dense meat, lots of eggs, grilled or fried are not crispy, but very soft bones, sweet meat, fragrant. After days of climbing mountains, exploring and experiencing the land with an altitude of over 2,000 meters above sea level, go down to the village to soak in the hot mineral spring, in the evening enjoy the specialties prepared by the hands of the Thai white boys and girls of Ngoc Chien commune, including humpback carp, sip with a cup of strong wine made from leaves, feel the unique value that nature has bestowed on this land.
