Thanks to the solidarity between the military and the people, and relying on the rugged terrain of the mountains and forests, during the resistance war against the US, the Tra My area became a base and foothold for the revolutionary forces of Military Region 5. After peace was restored, this base area has developed day by day, making generations even more proud of its glorious history full of victories.
Ancient achievements
The Nuoc Oa area - Tra Tan commune became the base of the Zone 5 Party Committee, the Zone 5 Military Command, and other Zone 5 agencies and departments during the resistance war against the US, from 1960 to 1973.
According to veteran revolutionary cadre Huynh Tan Sam - former Secretary of the Party Committee of Bac Tra My district, with their tradition of patriotism and love for their homeland, and the protection of the mountains and forests, the ethnic groups of Tra My district have maximized their strengths.
By intensifying propaganda and education on the Party's guidelines and policies, and the righteousness of the national liberation struggle, the patriotic spirit of the people was mobilized to participate in protecting and supporting the revolution.
Mr. Sam recounted that during that time of fierce bombing and shelling, Party members and the people were united. The call to action, "Party members lead the way, the people follow," and "no Party member will retreat in the face of difficulties and fierce fighting," mobilized the people's strength to protect the revolution. Each Party committee member and each Party member was a guerrilla fighter carrying a gun, a soldier carrying supplies and ammunition, wholeheartedly dedicated to their assigned tasks.
Cadres and people simultaneously fought and produced, contributing manpower and resources to the resistance war against the American imperialists, building Tra My district into a base and foothold for the revolutionary forces of Military Region 5.
Together with the armed forces of Military Region 5, the Party Committee and people of Tra My united as one to defeat the invading enemy, achieving victory at Doc Commune Post on March 27, 1971. Tra My was completely liberated, creating additional momentum and strength for the campaign to liberate the homeland in 1975.
New success
Today, the former base area, the Central Vietnam Historical Relic Site - Nuoc Oa, remains a glorious testament to the arduous years of resistance.
Recognized as a national historical site in 1992, the Central Vietnam - Nuoc Oa Historical Site is planned on an area of 700 hectares, forming a complex with 11 restored and reconstructed historical sites. The site is preserved and promoted by the Bac Tra My District Party Committee and People's Committee, becoming a "red address" for educating future generations about revolutionary traditions.
In the long term, to ensure the preservation and promotion of the historical value of the Central Vietnam - Nuoc Oa Historical Relic Area, investment in renovation and upgrading to connect the relic complexes for management, operation, and especially to exploit the potential for historical tourism and activities related to the origins of the site is essential.
According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Tuyet Thanh, Secretary of the Bac Tra My District Party Committee, in the former revolutionary base area, the lives of the people are improving day by day, especially the people of Tra Tan commune, which has built a new rural area and is making steady progress towards becoming an advanced new rural commune in the near future. Compared to the time when Tra My was first divided into Nam Tra My and Bac Tra My districts, the lives of the people in the revolutionary base area have changed significantly.
