VFF finalizes number of foreign players in V-League, there will be 2 relegation spots in the new season

Accordingly, the tournament will have 14 participating teams, competing in a round-robin format with home and away matches to calculate points. The total prize value is up to 9.5 billion VND.

A new point is that V-League 2025/26 will have 2 relegation slots instead of 1.5 slots like last season (1 direct relegation, 1 play-off). The number of registered foreign players will also be adjusted when teams competing at the club level in the AFC tournament are allowed to register 7 players.

Other clubs are allowed to register 4 foreign players, each match can register 4 players and play 3 players at all times of the match. Previously, some teams such as Thep Xanh Nam Dinh , The Cong Viettel, Ha Noi FC... proposed to increase the number of foreign players allowed to play on the field to 4 people. However, some teams later changed their opinion and wanted to keep it the same to ensure opportunities for Vietnamese players to compete, practice and gain experience to serve the Vietnamese team.

The new season will have 2 direct relegation slots instead of 1.5 as before.

With the merger of provinces and cities from July 1, 2025, V-League 2025/26 will have more intra-provincial derby matches, opportunities to develop the image of the tournament as well as expectations for changes in football management and development to suit the capacity and actual conditions of the localities; in addition to increasing the number of traditional fans, carrying identity, brand, and associated with local traditions.
