On the morning of May 3, the Organizing Committee of the 2025 Second Division Tournament met to resolve the incident after Phu Tho Club was relegated to the third division by the Disciplinary Committee of the International Football Federation (FIFA) for its involvement in match-fixing in football matches and tournaments.
Accordingly, the Organizing Committee has issued Notice No. 7 on the suspension of Phu Tho Club from the 2025 Second Division from the 5th match, according to the decision of the FIFA Disciplinary Committee. The results of the matches that Phu Tho Club has played with teams in the 2025 Second Division will be canceled.
The tournament organizers said that the remaining matches of the tournament will still take place according to the issued schedule. The tournament organizers will report to the leaders of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) to handle the above incident according to VFF regulations.
According to the match schedule, Phu Tho Club will host Young Hanoi at 4pm today (May 3) at Viet Tri Stadium. Young Hanoi team arrived in Phu Tho yesterday (May 2) to prepare for the match, and this morning the team still met normally to prepare for the match this afternoon.
In the first three matches of the 2025 Second Division, Phu Tho Club lost to Bac Ninh 0-4 (home), lost to Quang Ninh and PVF CAND Youth with the same score of 0-3, all on away matches, ranking bottom of Group A.
Previously, on the evening of May 2, the FIFA Disciplinary Committee issued a disciplinary notice against Phu Tho Club for its actions related to match-fixing. Accordingly, Phu Tho Club was eliminated from the 2025 Second Division and had to compete in the Third Division next season.
This disciplinary decision has been forwarded by FIFA to VFF and Phu Tho Club. Phu Tho Club has the right to appeal to the FIFA Appeals Board within 10 days from the date of the decision.
Immediately afterwards, VFF also issued a statement on the incident. VFF said it would continue to coordinate with FIFA and relevant authorities to review and handle the matter according to VFF's disciplinary regulations. In addition, VFF also affirmed that it has, is and will continue to strictly handle negative behaviors, while strengthening control work throughout the national football system.
