Báo Gia đình và Xã hộiBáo Gia đình và Xã hội16/03/2024

There are many causes leading to the appearance of hemorrhoids, the most common of which is due to unscientific eating and living habits such as: Eating a lot of meat, few vegetables, drinking little water, sitting a lot, little exercise... this will cause constipation, leading to hemorrhoids in the long run.

Can hemorrhoids recur?

Hemorrhoids are often described as dilated venous plexuses of the anorectal area, which gradually enlarge due to venous blood stasis. Depending on the location of the hemorrhoids, they are divided into two types: external hemorrhoids and internal hemorrhoids.

- External hemorrhoids (located outside the anus) develop near the edge of the anus and are covered by the very sensitive skin of the anal verge. They are usually painless, however if a blood clot forms (thrombosed hemorrhoids), it can be very painful and form a hard mass. External hemorrhoids can also bleed if they rupture.

- Internal hemorrhoids (located inside the anus) are usually painless, bleeding, and hemorrhoids protruding during bowel movements are common symptoms. However, it can be very painful if the internal hemorrhoids completely prolapse, protruding from the anus outside the anus and cannot be pushed back in (strangulated hemorrhoids).

In fact, there are many cases where the disease recurs after a period of hemorrhoid surgery. The reason is that the venous system in the anus and rectum is dilated and weakened and will not recover as before. Therefore, the more hemorrhoids recur, the more the venous tissue around the anus will stretch, making the hemorrhoids worse.

In some cases, after hemorrhoidectomy surgery, if you do not change your diet and lifestyle properly, hemorrhoids can easily recur. Because the nature of surgery only addresses the protruding hemorrhoids. Meanwhile, the weakened venous system inside cannot be treated by surgery. Therefore, if there are factors that can easily cause the disease, hemorrhoids will easily recur.

What to do to prevent hemorrhoids from recurring?

To avoid recurrence, after treatment, patients need to return for check-ups as prescribed by doctors, strictly follow the instructions for taking medication as well as diet. In addition, patients need to pay attention to a suitable diet, because this will help the recovery process of hemorrhoids quickly and prevent hemorrhoids from appearing. You should add more green vegetables, tubers and fresh fruits to your daily menu to add more fiber and vitamins. These foods help laxatives, prevent constipation. Thereby, helping to reduce pressure when defecating to prevent hemorrhoids.

You should drink enough water every day, because it will benefit digestion and effectively reduce constipation. Adults should drink about 2.5 liters of water every day to prevent hemorrhoids and many other diseases such as kidney stones, diabetes, stomach ...

Regular exercise also needs attention, because it will help reduce pressure on the anal veins causing hemorrhoids. Exercising properly will help you improve your health, strengthen the anal veins, and reduce excessive anal dilation causing hemorrhoids. Therefore, to prevent hemorrhoids from recurring, you should spend at least 30 minutes a day practicing some moderate, beneficial sports such as: walking, swimming, yoga, tai chi...

Avoid eating spicy foods and spices, stay away from stimulants such as beer and alcohol, and keep the anus clean. If you see signs of itching and pain similar to hemorrhoids, you should go to a medical facility for examination immediately so that doctors can promptly treat the disease when it first recurs.

Internal hemorrhoids are divided into 4 degrees:

– Grade I: Hemorrhoids do not prolapse.

– Grade II: Hemorrhoids prolapse and retract into the anus after defecation.

– Grade III: Hemorrhoids fall out and must be pushed back in by hand.

– Grade IV: Hemorrhoids prolapse and cannot be pushed back in.
