Video of Russian man feeding his pet bear attracts attention (Source: Instagram).

The video, uploaded to Instagram by user @panteleenko_svetlana, shows a man holding a bowl of buckwheat and gently spoon-feeding it to the giant brown bear.

“What noble animals, say thank you with kisses,” the photo caption reads. The video was uploaded on February 9 and has garnered more than 2.7 million likes.

“Only in Russia,” one person commented below the post.

Another commented: "It's awesome how the bear patiently waited for the spoon instead of grabbing the bowl."

The bear appears to be a pet, as other posts on the man's Instagram show the bear being given a birthday cake and taking part in family photo shoots. Captions on other posts reveal the bear's name is Savva and it appears to have lived with the family since it was a cub.

The family also apparently had other bears as pets, including one named Stepan.

It is not yet clear what species Savva and the other bears belong to. Russia is home to several species of bears, including the Kamchatka brown bear, the Eurasian brown bear and the Ussuri brown bear. The most common species, the Eurasian bear, is found across the country, stretching from the western border near Europe to the eastern regions of Siberia.

Adult males can weigh between 300-600kg, have thick fur, which can vary in colour from dark brown to almost golden, depending on the region.

Keeping bears as pets is quite dangerous, even when kept from a young age, as their natural instincts and behaviors become more evident over time, posing a significant risk to the safety of the owner.

Keeping bears as pets is illegal in many countries, including Russia. However, some states in the US allow keeping bears as pets, including Alabama, Delaware, Nevada…
