In an interview with the press, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Do Hung Viet, head of the Vietnamese delegation at the session, stated that Vietnam had a very successful UPR dialogue session with the participation of numerous United Nations member states. It was also a remarkable coincidence that the dialogue took place on May 7th, the anniversary of the liberation of Dien Bien Phu, in Geneva, the very place where the Geneva Accords were negotiated and signed in 1954. Therefore, Deputy Minister Do Hung Viet emphasized: “The first message the Vietnamese delegation brought to the conference was to affirm the importance of peace, national independence, and the right to self-determination for development efforts and the promotion of human rights.”
Vietnam is expected to announce its official position on the recommendations and the number of recommendations it will accept before the 57th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council. Following this, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in coordination with relevant ministries, agencies, and organizations, will develop and submit to the Prime Minister for approval a comprehensive plan for implementing the recommendations Vietnam accepts under the UPR mechanism, cycle IV. This plan will define the assignment of tasks and responsibilities to the agencies and help monitor the progress of implementing the recommendations Vietnam accepts.
