On November 25, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung chaired a meeting on development and application in the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) industry.
According to assessments at the meeting, UAVs are opening a new industry globally, moving from the experimental stage to global commercial, industrial-scale production.
UAV is also a strategic industry, capable of creating large added value and directly contributing to GDP growth, improving labor productivity, and contributing to protecting national security and sovereignty .
Meanwhile, Vietnam holds many advantages to develop UAVs and soon participate in this strategic industry.

In a specific report, Permanent Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Vu Hai Quan said that research, development and application of UAVs is an urgent need to master core technologies, form a UAV industry to serve people's lives, and promote socio-economic development.
UAV is a comprehensive high-tech industry. Developing the domestic application market is the central driving force for the UAV industry. Focusing on investing in inventions and patents in scientific, technological and innovative tasks related to UAV.
UAVs not only serve socio-economic development in peacetime, but also play a role in ensuring national defense and security.
The overall goal is to develop the national capacity to absorb, master, innovate and gradually become autonomous in technology, soon forming a UAV industry to serve the economy, society and national defense. Thereby enhancing competitiveness and making Vietnam a leading center of innovation and UAV production in the region, contributing to economic development.
The Deputy Minister said that in the process of building goals, tasks, solutions for developing and applying UAVs, the Ministry of Science and Technology has consulted international experience and reviewed, learned, and understood the internal strength of domestic enterprises in this field.
Based on the comments, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung highly appreciated the efforts of the Ministry of Science and Technology, saying that the basic contents closely followed Resolution No. 57 of the Politburo and the Strategy for Science, Technology and Innovation.
However, the Deputy Prime Minister requested that it be carefully considered and completed to properly reflect the national strategy. Therefore, the ministry needs to review and standardize a number of specific goals to ensure practicality and feasibility when implementing them.
In addition, it is necessary to focus on building specific solutions with clear content, focus, key points, breakthroughs and high applicability in many fields when using UAVs.
