According to the latest report from market research firm Sensor Tower, Vietnam is currently ranked third in the world in game production across all platforms, but has the most advantage in the mobile segment. The world's first and second place in this field are currently China and the US, respectively.

Two game genres that show Vietnam's current prominence are hypercasual and hybridcasual. These are both simple, easy-to-access game genres, especially on mobile platforms. Hypercasual does not require high skills or extensive knowledge from players, meeting immediate entertainment needs. Hybridcasual is similar, but has more in-depth game elements such as upgrade systems, strategies, easy to play but also easy to "catch" players.

Sharing with Vietnamese media recently, Mr. David Law - Director of Customer Relations for the Asia- Pacific region (APAC) said: "Game developers and publishers in Vietnam have great potential and ability, can export electronic game products and meet the needs of international players. By the end of the year, Vietnam had 3 out of 10 game publishers with the highest number of downloads globally". Mr. David also affirmed that when it comes to the field of international game publishing, Vietnam is "a powerhouse" and one of the leading countries.

"We evaluate the ability of Vietnamese game developers, not only to create high-quality games but also to bring strong revenue potential. 2025 will be worth looking forward to," commented a representative of Sensor Tower.

In 2024, the world had more than 49 billion game downloads, although it decreased by nearly 7% compared to the same period, but the revenue brought to developers increased by 4%, including the cost of buying games and buying items, expansion features in the game (In-app Purchase, or IAP). Entering the first quarter of 2025, the number of downloads increased by 5%, IAP costs also increased by 2%, showing positive signals of the game market.

In recent years, games have emerged as a growing sector and have begun to receive attention in Vietnam. In many meetings, video games have been assessed by leaders of relevant agencies as one of the spearheads for developing the digital economy as this sector can bring in large amounts of foreign currency from abroad while producers can still sit right in Vietnam.

The report on the Strategy for Management and Development of the Online Electronic Game Industry in Vietnam in the period of 2025 - 2030 recorded that Vietnam and Southeast Asia have the highest growth rate of mobile games in the world, at 7.4% per year in the period of 2022 - 2025. Revenue from the gaming industry in Vietnam is predicted to reach 1.66 billion USD in 2025 and continue to grow steadily at 9.77% per year, reaching 2.42 billion USD in 2029.
