Gartner: Viettel is one of the global 5G radio equipment suppliers

(Chinhphu.vn) - Recently, Viettel High Tech, a member of Viettel Group, was recognized by Gartner in the Magic Quadrant for CSP 5G RAN Infrastructure Solutions 2025 report on radio access solutions for 5G telecommunications infrastructure, also known as RAN.

GSMA representative assessed that the "Make in Vietnam" 5G device has proven that Open RAN is a scalable solution that operates stably on a large scale.

For the first time, Vietnam is named in the Gartner report.

Gartner's report - the world's leading technology research and consulting organization, specializes in analyzing and forecasting technology trends to help global businesses make investment and equipment purchasing decisions, has a great influence on investment decisions of the global telecommunications industry, and can even "open" or "close" opportunities for equipment suppliers. For the first time, Vietnam is on this list.

According to Forbes, the Gartner Magic Quadrant (MQ) report is considered the "gold standard" for evaluating the market position of technology suppliers. Especially in the telecommunications sector, this report can influence global investment and procurement decisions.

In the report, Gartner evaluates device vendors based on two main criteria: Execution capability, including operational capabilities, deployment, customer support, market size, and strategic vision – product development direction in line with future technology trends.

Appearing in the report are the "big guys" in the industry, such as Ericsson, Nokia and Huawei - names that have dominated the global telecommunications market for many years. This year, for the first time, Vietnam was mentioned, with the appearance of the Viettel High Tech brand, officially entering the group of very few countries with the capacity to manufacture and supply 5G radio infrastructure equipment.

According to the report, Viettel High Tech is classified in the "Niche Player" group - a group of suppliers with specialized capabilities, demonstrating a pioneering role in commercializing 5G Open RAN base stations. This result demonstrates the capacity and potential, as the enterprise has been able to provide international standard telecommunications infrastructure equipment to major carriers.

The reason Gartner named the Vietnamese representative

There are two main factors that helped the Vietnamese brand appear for the first time in the global report on 5G radio.

The first is a different approach to technology. Viettel High Tech is one of the first companies to deploy Open RAN technology based on a chipset developed by Qualcomm specifically for 5G radios. This approach helps optimize 24% of energy compared to traditional RAN equipment, reducing costs and increasing 5G network coverage.

The second is the ability to deploy in practice. According to Mr. Akash Palkhiwala, Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Qualcomm, Open RAN is a very difficult technology to deploy in practice, requiring a lot of effort and expertise. "However, in less than 3 years, Qualcomm and Viettel High Tech have jointly developed products based on Qualcomm chips. In particular, Viettel High Tech has successfully deployed more than 2,000 broadcasting stations on a large-scale commercial network," said a Qualcomm representative.

"That is an extraordinary number, and what is special is that the stations are not only located in the city center but also in rural areas, in very difficult terrain. This shows that Viettel High Tech has proven that Open RAN is a scalable and stable solution at large scale," said Ms. Jeanette Whyte, Head of Public Policy and External Affairs for Asia - Pacific , Global Mobile Association (GSMA).

Earlier this year, Viettel High Tech said its equipment had also been deployed in the network of Emirates Integrated Telecommunications (du) – one of the leading network operators in the UAE and the Middle East region.

Viettel's outstanding strength is that the 5G ecosystem is completely domestically mastered, from research, design to manufacturing. Currently, the core network, transmission, billing, IMS voice and optical access solutions and devices developed by Viettel are serving more than 190 million subscribers worldwide, including tens of millions of Viettel 5G core network users and millions of terminal devices manufactured by the company.

Viettel High Tech's appearance in the report is not only a milestone for the enterprise but also an important step forward for Vietnamese technology on the world map, opening up many opportunities for technology export and international cooperation.
