In the 44th minute, Phan Van Thanh headed the ball to neutralize India's attack. Vietnam changed their stance and counterattacked quickly with a long pass from Nguyen Cong Phuong's home field for Le Dinh Long Vu to break through. In a "one against two" situation, Long Vu flexibly shook his body, eliminated Ricky who was following him, then finished with his left foot, sending the ball rolling to the far corner, out of the reach of goalkeeper Sahil, into the edge of the net, opening the score.
Vietnam almost doubled the gap in the third minute of injury time in the first half. Le Huynh Trieu took a corner kick and crossed the ball straight into the opponent's goal. The ball rolled out of the reach of goalkeeper Sahil, but hit the post.

During the remaining time, both teams did not have any more dangerous opportunities as their physical strength decreased, causing their attacks to become inaccurate. The score of 1-1 remained until the end of the match. After the first round, all four teams in Group D had one point. Before the match between Vietnam and India, defending champions Japan drew 1-1 with Uzbekistan.
