The two concerts of BlackPink, a Korean idol group, at My Dinh National Stadium (Hanoi) - the final destination of their Born Pink World Tour - attracted nearly 70,000 spectators, and were considered a successful and groundbreaking show for the Vietnamese performance market. Many people believe that Vietnam has the potential to become a new quality music destination, attracting international artists and audiences.

The BlackPink music night event attracted a large audience and the attention of domestic and international media; in particular, in addition to domestic audiences and tourists , the sharp increase in foreign tourists from China, Korea, Singapore, etc. is a necessary boost for the Vietnamese music market.

At the end of July, at Vinpearl Nha Trang, the 8Wonder music festival welcomed famous American singer Charlie Puth to Vietnam for the first time. He performed special solos, duets and harmonized with about 7,000 audiences in songs with billions of views: See you again, We don't talk anymore, Attention... At the end of February, legendary Japanese artist Kitaro came to Ninh Binh to perform in Ha Anh Tuan's live show Chan troi hong ro. For the first time, two of Kitaro's instrumental products, Koi and Silk Road, were written with Vietnamese lyrics and performed by Ha Anh Tuan.
Musician Huy Tuan said: “Vietnam has great potential to become an attractive destination for the international performance industry. Major events gradually create a habit for the public to enjoy the pinnacles of world music, from artists to techniques, stages, musical instruments… Audiences who are familiar with quality shows will later be willing to spend money to buy tickets for a program that is commensurate with the program.”
Before these events, the Ho Chi Minh City - Ho Do International Music Festival 2022 has 250 artists from the UK, France, Korea, Spain, USA, India... "landing" in Vietnam to perform, including: Kenny Edmonds (stage name Babyface), Johnny Stimson - owner of the hit Smile, Alastair Moock - Grammy nominated artist, Ricky Kej - Grammy award winning artist...
Recently, the news that Vietnam will “welcome” music legend Steve Vai (USA) to perform in October has made many audiences restless. Steve Vai has won the Grammy Award 3 times, has been nominated 15 times…; therefore, the fact that his crew chose Vietnam as the next stop in the framework of the Inviolate world tour will be a very anticipated event.
The success of many music nights, festivals, and tours with international artists are necessary and important boosts, demonstrating that Vietnam possesses many conditions to create a new destination with great potential on the world music performance industry map: a large number of music lovers; a number of quality international music festivals; facilities are being completed, capable of handling large-scale shows; the organization mechanism is gradually opening up; opportunities to attract investors... It is clear that the promotion of the development of domestic entertainment technology is having clear changes in many aspects, with steps to contact and approach the world's major entertainment technology market.
Efforts to change to attract
Talking about the challenges that organizers of major domestic music events and shows have to face, producer Vo Minh Hien said that it is the issue of facilities and standard equipment to meet the requirements of international artists; the number of audiences... He said that the requirements for technology, machinery, orchestra... of international artists are extremely high, often difficult to meet domestically, not to mention the artist's crew also follows. The budget is therefore very high. Like the Born Pink show, the sound and lighting system of the program has 80% imported equipment. With the 8Wonder music festival, the performance standards of the world entertainment industry are applied for the first time. And Ha Anh Tuan's crew when welcoming artist Kitaro to perform had to meet a series of strict requirements: a long list of sound equipment, auxiliary effects, including a mandatory Taiko drum set; Kitaro's detailed requirements for security, accommodation, travel, etc. were a big challenge for the organizers.

BlackPink's tour in Hanoi selling a large number of tickets can be said to be a positive sign compared to many years ago, when the purchasing power of Vietnamese audiences was quite limited. As producer Vo Minh Hien once pondered: "If I had to say more about a major obstacle when the music market opened, it would probably be the audience's habits. We were helpless many times, having to cancel big shows of some international artists scheduled to come to Vietnam because very few tickets were sold. International artists often require a stage with at least 5,000, 10,000 or more spectators, but our domestic audience likes to "watch - listen for free", wants to get free tickets but doesn't want to... spend money. For that reason, for a long time, international artists did not consider Vietnam a desirable destination."
The presence of international artists in Vietnam is a positive sign, showing the progress of domestic organization capacity. Who knows, in the near future, Taylor Swift, Adele... will choose Vietnam as a destination for their tour. Therefore, in addition to the current advantages, Vietnam needs to create favorable and preferential conditions for international investors and artists as some countries have done. Creating a favorable licensing process is necessary, encouraging more international performances, bringing a new look to the entertainment industry.
