(MPI) – On the occasion of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh 's official visit to Qatar from October 30 to November 1, 2024, marking the first time in 15 years that a Vietnamese Prime Minister has officially visited Qatar, the two sides issued a Joint Communique between Vietnam and Qatar.

The joint statement stated that Vietnam and Qatar were pleased with the achievements in bilateral relations over the past 30 years, with the relationship increasingly developing and expanding in many fields. The two sides pledged to increase delegation exchanges and contacts at all levels and through various channels, and promote people-to-people exchanges to further promote good cooperation between Vietnam and Qatar.
With a common vision of deepening political trust and bringing the Vietnam-Qatar relationship to a higher level, the two sides agreed to make efforts to upgrade the bilateral relationship to a more extensive, substantive and effective partnership framework.
The two sides will promote the ability to negotiate bilateral intergovernmental agreements in the fields of visa exemption, labor, economy, trade, etc. to expand the market for goods.
The two sides emphasized the importance of economic, trade and investment cooperation, and recognized great potential for cooperation in other fields such as energy, oil and gas, especially liquefied natural gas (LNG), agriculture, Halal, banking, etc. The two sides agreed to strengthen trade and investment promotion activities, boost business connections and support investors from both sides; promote Qatar Investment Funds to invest in strategic projects in Vietnam.
The two sides pledged to strengthen defense and security cooperation, maintain a cooperative and peaceful environment in the two regions and in the world.
Vietnam and Qatar recognized the importance of promoting education and training, tourism, cultural and sports exchanges to strengthen people-to-people connections and deepen mutual understanding; agreed to increase scholarships for students of the two countries.
In addition, the two sides agreed to explore cooperation opportunities in emerging areas such as semiconductors, artificial intelligence, cloud computing, clean energy, solar energy, digital transformation, innovation management, green economy and circular economy, and other areas.
During the visit, the two sides signed five bilateral agreements and pacts to enhance cooperation; exchanged views on international and regional issues of mutual concern and stressed the importance of respecting international law and the United Nations Charter, supporting the settlement of disputes by diplomatic means to maintain peace, stability, security and promote development at the regional and global levels./.
