Qatar coach Hoang Anh Tuan and his team lost 3-4 to Jordan in a penalty shootout after a 0-0 draw in the two halves of a friendly match on the evening of April 10.
This is Vietnam's only friendly match in preparation for the U23 Asian Cup, taking place from April 15.
In the first half, coach Hoang Anh Tuan let his team play defensive and counter-attacking. Vietnam blocked Jordan's attacks and also organized dangerous "quick attacks". In which, striker Nguyen Hoang had a face-to-face situation with the opposing goalkeeper but was unsuccessful.

In the second half, coach Hoang Anh Tuan made 10 substitutions. Vietnam also switched to actively controlling the ball, pushing up the attacking formation. The team almost opened the score in the 61st minute when they coordinated an attack on the right flank, but Bui Vi Hao could not beat Jordan's goalkeeper when facing him.
After a 0-0 draw after two halves, the two teams took a penalty shootout to hone their players' skills. Vietnam lost 3-4 when Vi Hao once again failed against Jordan's goalkeeper, and Manh Hung missed the final penalty.
"The match with Jordan was very rewarding," commented coach Hoang Anh Tuan. "Everything did not go as expected, but I saw that the players performed quite well, with very optimistic signs. Vietnam played with two different lineups, but the quality of the team's performance in the two halves did not change at all. We even had chances to score. In the penalty shootout, Vietnam lost. But overall, the draw was worthy for both teams."
The Khanh Hoa coach added that, compared to the tactical requirements, the players have not performed well but does not consider that a concern. "We have not released the volume yet, Vietnam still has time to prepare for the first match with Kuwait," he said.

Vietnam still has six days to train and improve before entering the final round of the AFC U23 Championship. The team is in Group D, facing Kuwait (April 17), Malaysia (April 20) and Uzbekistan (April 23). The 2024 AFC U23 Championship also serves as the Asian qualifier for the 2024 Summer Olympics. The top three teams will qualify directly for France, while the fourth-placed team will play a play-off with an African representative.
