On August 19, in Hanoi , the Military Industry-Telecoms Group (Viettel) officially started construction of the An Khanh Data Center and Viettel Research and Development Center.
This activity is part of the event of simultaneously starting and inaugurating 250 projects nationwide to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day September 2.
The Viettel Research and Development (R&D) Center project has an investment of 10 trillion VND on an area of 13 hectares in Hoa Lac High-Tech Park. The project consists of 6 smart buildings, expected to be completed in 2030, and will be a key R&D center, closing the entire process of research-design-prototyping-manufacturing of high-tech products "Made in Vietnam".
From mastering the technologies of manufacturing cruise engines, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), remote sensing satellites, radars, etc., Viettel will create military equipment products suitable for the requirements of protecting the Fatherland to researching and applying technologies of big data, artificial intelligence (AI), cloud computing, etc. to develop equipment, software, solutions, platforms, and services that meet the actual needs of the market and are in line with world technology trends.
The project applies international standards in design and operation, integrating smart, green, sustainable elements to both meet high professional requirements and be environmentally friendly. This is also a project built with a system that ensures absolute safety and security, uses the most modern technology and is protected through many layers.
It is expected to attract about 2,500 high-quality personnel, meeting the requirements of the tasks and policies of the Party, State, and Ministry of National Defense in the field of research and production of military equipment to help modernize the army, improve combat strength and the ability to protect the country in the new situation.
An Khanh Data Center is built on an area of 1.9 hectares, with a total investment of 17,500 billion VND, a designed capacity of 60MW, expected to become the largest data center in the North. Phase 1 is expected to operate from the second quarter of 2026 and by 2030 will be upgraded to become Viettel's second Hyperscale Data Center.
The project is designed according to Uptime Tier III standards, integrating AI developed by Viettel, a 5-layer security system and modern cooling technology, ensuring green and sustainable operations, towards the Government's Net Zero goal. This will be a key infrastructure, serving the digital transformation of the Government, the Ministry of National Defense, large enterprises and the deployment of artificial intelligence on a national scale.

Chairman and General Director of Viettel Group Tao Duc Thang emphasized: Viettel Group sincerely thanks the leaders of the Party, State, Central Military Commission, Ministry of National Defense, central departments, ministries, branches, and Hanoi City for always paying attention, closely directing, creating the most favorable conditions for Viettel to implement the project, and at the same time providing strategic orientation to help the project closely link with the goal of developing science and technology, defense industry and the task of protecting the Fatherland.
Viettel commits to completing the project on schedule, ensuring quality exceeding requirements and meeting international standards. The two projects will be guaranteed safe throughout the construction and operation process, not only as modern research infrastructure today but also as a sustainable foundation for future generations.
In 2025, Viettel has deployed the construction of a series of strategic projects such as Tan Phu Trung Data Center, Viettel Da Nang Building, etc., contributing to the completion of a modern technology infrastructure network, meeting the goals of national defense development and digital transformation.
