Honoring Khanh Hoa Salanganes Nest National Intangible Cultural Heritage

VHO - As part of the series of events of Khanh Hoa Sea Culture - Tourism Festival 2025, on the evening of June 4, Khanh Hoa Salanganes Nest Company coordinated with the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Khanh Hoa province to organize the Ceremony to honor Folk Knowledge and Khanh Hoa Salanganes Nest Festival - National Intangible Cultural Heritage.

Previously, as reported, on June 2, 2025, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung signed Decision No. 1652/QD-BVHTTDL recognizing "Khanh Hoa Salanganes Nest Festival" as a traditional festival as a national intangible cultural heritage.

The area with this heritage includes Nha Trang city, Cam Ranh, Ninh Hoa town, Dien Khanh, Cam Lam and Van Ninh districts of Khanh Hoa province.

The event is an activity to honor the traditional cultural values of the profession of exploiting and processing bird's nests, associated with the sacred sea and islands of the Fatherland.

This is also an opportunity to pay tribute to the Ancestors, the Holy Mother and the predecessors who opened and developed the bird's nest industry, thereby passing on to future generations a valuable treasure of knowledge imbued with the traditional cultural identity of Khanh Hoa.

The program takes the audience back in time to the early years of the pristine island of bird's nests. There, the image of the Holy Mother Le Thi Huyen Tram appears as a brave and tolerant woman in building, protecting and developing the traditional bird's nest exploitation and processing profession for nearly 700 years.

The combination of traditional art and modern stage technology has brought a profound and touching artistic space.

The entire performance gathered veteran artists and actors of Khanh Hoa province, in collaboration with Khanh Hoa Traditional Arts Theater and Hai Dang Song and Dance Troupe, creating a program that is both rich in cultural identity and has high artistic value, vividly recreating the journey of formation and development of the bird's nest exploitation profession in Khanh Hoa, associated with Grand Admiral Le Thi Huyen Tram, who was revered by the people as the Holy Mother of the Bird's Nest Island.

The ceremony to honor the Knowledge of exploiting and processing bird's nests and the Khanh Hoa Bird's Nest Festival - National Intangible Cultural Heritage is not only a great honor for Khanh Hoa province but also a testament to the cultural, historical and quintessence values that the bird's nest industry has nurtured over many generations.

Speaking at the award ceremony, Ms. Trinh Thi Hong Van - Chairwoman of the Board of Members of Khanh Hoa State-owned Salanganes Nest Company Limited emphasized:

“Khanh Hoa land, where “agarwood forests and bird’s nest seas” have converged for generations, has been associated with sacred cultural values, rare products bestowed by nature, in which the profession of exploiting and processing bird’s nests is a unique symbol, the soul of this land of agarwood.

Throughout the history of building and defending the country, Khanh Hoa bird's nest craft has existed as a treasure associated with national pride. Over nearly 700 years of formation and development, many generations of island residents have silently overcome many storms, hardships and difficulties to preserve the precious resources that nature has bestowed. Today, in a solemn and proud atmosphere, we together witness a great milestone: the profession of exploiting and processing bird's nests and the Khanh Hoa bird's nest brand is officially listed in the list of National Intangible Cultural Heritage.

This is a reminder of the responsibility to protect, preserve and promote the value of heritage, an inseparable part of the cultural identity, spirituality and profound beliefs that our ancestors have preserved.

The mission of the community is to preserve the heritage forever, to reach further, so that the priceless values are spread strongly, in the hearts of Khanh Hoa people and spread to all domestic and international tourists.

Future generations will not only witness but also deeply feel the eternal value, passing on the quintessence and magical power of this precious heritage.
