The HoSE representative index ended today's session up just 1 point to nearly 1,130 points, up 12% compared to the end of last year.
In the last trading session of the year, VN-Index remained green all day. After a slight shake, the index approached the 1,135 point area in the late morning, up nearly 6 points. However, in the afternoon, the market faced increasing selling pressure and fell nearly 3 points in the ATC session.
The VN-Index closed at 1,129.93 points, up one point from the previous day. Compared to the end of last year, the VN-Index increased by more than 248 points, equivalent to 12.2%. During the year, the VN-Index peaked at more than 1,255 points in early September, from a bottom of nearly 1,008 points at the beginning of the year.
On the Hanoi Stock Exchange, the HNX-Index slightly decreased in the last session of the year and closed at over 231 points. This year, the index accumulated nearly 26 points, an increase quite similar to the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange at 12.5%.
With an increase of more than 12%, this is the year with the lowest performance (increase in points in %) of the stock market since 2020, but a significant improvement compared to the decrease of nearly 33% last year. In 2020, VN-Index accumulated nearly 15% with a good recovery momentum in the second half of the year. In 2021, this index increased sharply by nearly 36% with positive developments and a prolonged uptrend.
This year’s closing score is within the expectations of many securities companies and market observers. Previously, many analysis groups agreed that the VN-Index would accumulate in December but not too strongly and close the year below 1,200 points.
In the last trading session of the year, the chemical industry led the increase in points, followed by the construction and materials group, retail. Securities and real estate stocks also closed the session with a slight increase. On the other hand, the banking industry decreased slightly in points. In addition, the technology and insurance industries also had less positive developments.
On the HoSE floor, 295 stocks increased, while 190 stocks decreased. Contributing the most improvement to the market were GVR, BID, VPB, HDB. On the contrary, VCB had the most negative impact on the general index when contributing more than 3.5 points to the decrease, followed by VHM, VNM, GAS.
Liquidity in the last session of the year increased by 270 billion, reaching nearly 15,800 billion VND. Foreign investors had the third consecutive session of net buying with a margin of more than 340 billion VND, down about 100 billion compared to yesterday.
