A group of tourists dined at a seafood restaurant on Tran Phu Street (Loc Tho Ward, Nha Trang City), then accused the restaurant of "ripping off" sea urchins at 1.8 million VND/kg - Photo cut from clip
The incident of eating sea urchins for 1.8 million VND/kg and then posting online to accuse the restaurant of "rip-offs" has affected the tourism image in Nha Trang City (Khanh Hoa Province). Many people believe that posting the complaint on social media does not solve the problem at its root.
Harmony and connection between tourists and destinations is very important
Dr. Do Thi Mai Doan Thuc - Head of the Tourism Department, Pacific University - said that reporting on social media the "overcharging" behavior of restaurants does not solve the problem at its root, and even has long-term effects on tourism development.
According to Ms. Thuc, in order for tourists to have feelings and maintain the image, it is necessary to ensure a good experience from the moment they arrive and leave. During this process, there must be plans to create a connection to keep visitors with the destination.
Thus, when tourists have "feelings" and feel something in common with the destination, they will have a tolerant, altruistic, and positive attitude in promoting tourism.
If a restaurant or establishment is accused by a customer of "overcharging", they should respond politely or show that they have done the right thing in communicating and posting prices...
Be a smart and responsible consumer
Associate Professor Dr. Le Chi Cong - Head of the Tourism Department, Nha Trang University - said that the most important thing is "agreement between the buyer and the seller" between the business establishment and the tourist.
According to Mr. Cong, information reflecting "overcharging" needs to be clearly verified with diners. If they have agreed on a price and agreed to use it but still report negatively, they themselves must take responsibility for their consumption to demonstrate autonomy in payment.
Currently, most businesses and food service establishments have clearly listed prices, showing that the seller has calculated the costs incurred, balanced the market prices to harmonize in meeting the needs of diners, but still ensure profits.
According to Mr. Cong, there must be fairness between diners and businesses. If the information reflected is incorrect and causes disadvantages to related cases, appropriate corrective measures must be taken.
"Currently, social networks are developing very strongly, information posted needs to be controlled and transparent, avoiding posting unverified information that causes many people to misunderstand" - Mr. Cong said.
Poster not found
On May 30, Mr. Tran Van Vo Thinh - Head of the Department of Culture, Science and Information of Nha Trang City (Khanh Hoa Province) - said that the unit is still actively searching for information about the account owner who posted the content denouncing the "overcharging" of sea urchin dishes at Chin Loc seafood restaurant, Nha Trang City.
Thus, after the above incident was posted on social networks on May 25 by the EB Facebook account, up to now, the responsible and competent authorities have not yet found this person to work with and handle, in order to ensure fairness in the behavior between the "accused" and the "accused".
For his part, Mr. Tran Van Chin - owner of Chin Loc seafood restaurant - said he has not yet received any feedback or apology from the group of diners who accused his seafood restaurant of "rip-off".
As reported by Tuoi Tre Online , on May 25, Facebook account EB posted an article with the title calling on people to avoid the Chin Loc seafood restaurant in Nha Trang because it is a "scam" and sells "a sea urchin for 4 million VND".
According to many people and readers, the selling price of this seafood is reasonable compared to the current general level, not "overpriced".
The above information was later removed from the social networking site where it was posted.
