On November 3, information from Specialist II Doctor Le Van Muoi, Head of Orthopedic Trauma Surgery Department, said that the hospital had just received 9 patients in the gas explosion at Dung Quat Shipyard ( Quang Ngai ).
Upon receiving the patient, the hospital immediately raised the red alert, preparing internal resuscitation, surgical resuscitation, burn resuscitation, and surgical teams to intervene promptly.
The victims were taken to Da Nang Hospital for emergency treatment (Photo: Hoai Son).
Doctors have classified 3 severe cases, with burns covering 70-80% of the body, level 3-4, so they must be transferred to the intensive care unit, where they will be given both burn resuscitation and respiratory resuscitation for immediate treatment.
In one case, there was a burn that caused compartment compression (edema), so the surgical team had to be mobilized to coordinate with the burn team to both resuscitate and treat compartment compression symptoms.
The remaining six patients had less severe burns, ranging from 5-70% in area, and were transferred to the Burn Surgery Department for treatment.
According to Dr. Muoi, severe cases may be due to the space being exposed to a stronger heat source. Currently, the injuries have not deeply affected the respiratory tract, but the hospital still has to monitor it as a case of respiratory burns.
Earlier that afternoon, a gas explosion occurred at Dung Quat Shipbuilding Industry Company, leaving 9 people burned.
Initially, some victims were taken to Quang Nam Central General Hospital for treatment, but later all were transferred to Da Nang Hospital.
