Why the conflict?
Social media has recently been stirred up by a story said to be from a Facebook account that is a makeup artist, posting a complaint against a customer who chose a party makeup service and used it on her wedding day.
This makeup artist asserted that this is a taboo in the industry, and even said that the client was being "clever" to cut costs. This person compared the incident to paying a director the same salary as a worker just because they both work 8 hours a day.
Not only that, the worker also posted a picture of the bride with her face covered. It was this girl's sharing that sparked controversial debates on social networks.

With more than 10 years of experience in the profession, Mr. Hoang Minh Duc, a makeup lecturer at a college in Hanoi , said that makeup is a unique job. With a diverse customer base and a wide range of service packages, he himself has encountered countless "half-crying, half-laughing" situations.
While other professions have clear quantification by product, makeup work has many qualitative factors. Mr. Minh Duc said that the level, skill, and effort of the worker is shown through the makeup that customers perceive as personal, each person's own point of view.
"Therefore, calculating makeup costs may not be clear. For example, customers want light, casual makeup, but what "light" and "casual" means is difficult to define," Minh Duc shared.
Not only that, during the makeup process, customers can request some more elaborate steps on the face. From their point of view, it is very simple, but from the perspective of the makeup artist, they see that the above arising things are not like the original wishes of the customer that was agreed upon.
Currently, makeup service packages are very diverse such as makeup for parties, events, outings, yearbook photos, bridal makeup... Depending on the complexity and nature of the event, the price of these makeup packages will be different.
According to this makeup artist, the initial agreement was not clear, so the customer and artist had a conflict after completing the facial makeup.
For the above reason, Mr. Minh Duc believes that the recent scandal involving the makeup artist and the bride is a typical story. Standing from the perspective of a professional, he also partly understands the psychology of the artist when encountering a case where a customer chooses makeup services for a party on the wedding day.
During his career, Mr. Minh Duc has encountered many cases where customers save money by agreeing to do simple things. In reality, during the makeup process, they want to do something more elaborate and beautiful.

The worker's mentality is to try to do more to make the customer as beautiful as possible. But they feel unsatisfied between the effort put in and the amount of money they will receive.
Mr. Minh Duc believes that the worker in the above story could have encountered the same situation. But from a professional perspective, he feels that the worker should blame himself for not giving clear advice to the customer from the beginning, instead of blaming them as what he did.
In particular, if the above situation occurs, Mr. Duc believes that the customer's identity should not be made public. "This only satisfies the worker's anger, but is not a good solution for both parties," Mr. Minh Duc emphasized.

After many years of providing services and interacting with countless customers, he believes that problems arise from both sides, the technician and the service user.
According to Mr. Minh Duc, if they really serve the majority, the makeup artist needs to quantify the different makeup packages of the center. During the consultation process for customers, the artist should introduce and analyze in detail what can and cannot be done in the service packages.
"From there, customers will balance their own needs to choose the appropriate makeup package. I think this will be the best solution to minimize conflicts arising during the working process," said Mr. Minh Duc.

Therefore, units should not quote prices based on event names and personal feelings, such as important bridal makeup should be charged high costs, while makeup for a less important outing should be charged low prices. "This will cause conflicts in the perception of what is elaborate and what is simple?", Mr. Duc asked.
For his center, makeup for a bride will last 90-120 minutes. In which, the makeup artist and hairdresser will work together in parallel. If the makeup for a party at the unit Minh Duc is working for is 600,000 VND, then makeup for a bride's face will cost 3 times more.
According to him, on average, a worker needs to undergo a 4-month vocational training course and 6 months of traveling to learn the trade and accumulate experience before being able to work proficiently. During this process, they may have to spend up to 100 million VND.
