Explosion of 'multiverse dance' of British University Vietnam students at The Universe Showcase

After months of hard work, student dance groups at BUV successfully brought an artistic night bursting with emotion and choreography, recreating the journey of space exploration through the creative perspective of the young generation.

BUV students "burn themselves out" with exciting performances at The Universe Showcase

This summer, the stage of British University Vietnam (BUV) really exploded with The Universe Showcase – an annual event organized by the BUV Dance Club. More than just a performance night, the event fully recreated a journey through space through the language of dance, both visually captivating and emotionally awakening the audience.

The event attracted over 300 audiences, bringing 12 performances from BUV students and guests from RMIT Hanoi Dance Club, VinUni Dance Crew and Greenwich Dance Crew. The Universe Showcase was built entirely by BUV students, from script ideas, choreography, image design to event organization and stage design.

Based on a creative and elaborate script, the show leads the audience through three chapters, recreating the journey of exploring the universe as a metaphor for the process of understanding and shaping oneself.

An emotional universe told through dance

Inspired by the planets and their iconic stories, The Universe Showcase is more than just a series of entertainment shows. It is a story about a journey of discovery from the familiar Earth to other distant planets in the universe, embedded through dance steps.

The adventure begins with Chapter 1, Heavenly Dawn, with a vibrant and energetic Opening performance representing Earth. But hidden behind the simplicity of everyday life is a desire to escape the monotonous cycle.

The Opening Retells the Energetic Daily Story on Earth

The desire to step out of that comfort zone is the starting point for the journey to conquer new lands in the two performances Girlstyle and Afro, depicting the eagerness and excitement of first touching unknown planets.

If Chapter 1 is the beginning with explosive energy, describing the emotions when just touching the new world , Chapter 2 - Lost in the void is the low part of the journey. The further the space "travelers" go, the more they are drawn into an emotional maze with sweet traps on Venus and Mars.

The atmosphere on stage changed dramatically as the performances delved into psychological depth. With a vibrant Hiphop style, the dance group simulated a stage where people were controlled like puppets, reflecting the state of losing control between ambition and paranoia.

Next up is the Uranian performance, which features a slow-paced, light-filled performance that evokes feelings of confusion and disorientation.

In Chapter Three – The Illumination from Within, the stage shifts to a quiet and deep tone. The performance at Pluto uses the Dancehall genre to convey the message of self-talk and inner awakening. Immediately after, the dance set against the backdrop of the Moon brings a gentle feeling, reflecting the process of healing and connecting with oneself.

The performances were all created and performed by the BUV student group themselves, demonstrating the students' creativity, artistic thinking, proactive spirit and organizational skills in a British-standard internationaleducational environment.

Sharing after the show, Phuong Anh, a member of BUV Dance Club, said: “Each planet is a part of our journey to maturity. There is innocence, there is immersion, there is loss, and there is also return and healing. I hope that everyone will see themselves somewhere in these performances.”

The show ended with the Ending performance representing the Sun, closing the journey with a message about the return of positive energy and stability. This is also the part that connects the entire story of The Universe, bringing the main character back to Earth with a new mindset.

Through 12 dance performances from BUV student groups and guests, The Universe Showcase portrayed a subtle metaphor for the journey of self-discovery, while also conveying an inspirational message, encouraging young people to break out of their comfort zone, explore the world around them to better understand themselves.
