The Vietnam - Egypt relationship is not only measured in more than 60 years since the two countries established official diplomatic relations (September 1, 1963), but in fact, it was laid by President Ho Chi Minh long before that. During his lifetime, President Ho Chi Minh visited Egypt 3 times, including the first time in June 1911 when he set foot on Egyptian soil and witnessed with his own eyes the difficult life of the colonial people in Africa. 35 years later, when he became the first President of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, Uncle Ho had the opportunity to return to Egypt (June 1946) on his way to attend the Fontainebleau Conference in France and visited Egypt once in September 1946 after the conference ended. The then Egyptian President Gamal Abdel Nasser and President Ho Chi Minh connected with each other through a close friendship, laying the foundation for the Vietnam - Egypt friendship that has developed well to this day.

Since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, the traditional friendship between Vietnam and Egypt has achieved remarkable achievements, expanded in many fields and strengthened on the basis of friendship, equality, mutual respect, and mutually beneficial cooperation for the benefit of the people of the two countries, notably through delegation exchanges, meetings, and contacts at international events and forums in which both countries participate.

The two countries also regularly coordinate and support each other in regional and international forums such as the United Nations, the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), the African Union (AU)... Vietnam highly appreciates the important and increasingly proactive and active role of Egypt in promoting and maintaining stability and security in the region. The two countries are always ready to act as a bridge for each other in strengthening cooperation with ASEAN and Arab countries, for the benefit of the people of the two countries, for peace , cooperation and development in the two regions.

In economic and trade cooperation, Egypt is one of Vietnam's important trade partners and potential markets in Africa. Egypt is the first North African country to recognize Vietnam as a full market economy (November 2013). Bilateral trade turnover reached 541.36 million USD in 2024, the highest among Vietnam's markets in the North African region. The two sides have a lot of room for cooperation on both bilateral and multilateral levels when they have many complementary strengths for mutual development, both are large markets with more than 100 million people, and have important geostrategic positions on the world map.

Cultural cooperation is also a very important pillar in the Vietnam-Egypt relationship. A number of joint activities have taken place in recent times, including active participation in festivals and cultural events organized by the two countries; an increasing number of Vietnamese students choose to study Arabic in Egypt. This relationship contributes to raising awareness among the younger generation about the friendship between the two peoples, while strengthening the cultural ties between the two countries.

The two countries have also promoted local cooperation in recent times, with the friendship and cooperation agreement between Vietnam's Ninh Binh province and Egypt's Luxor province in August 2018; and the friendship and cooperation agreement between Vietnam's capital Hanoi and Egypt's capital Cairo in July 2023.

President Luong Cuong's visit is an important political and diplomatic event of the two countries, with special significance, demonstrating the commitment to create breakthroughs, elevate relations, consolidate political trust and further deepen the traditional friendship, thereby creating momentum and opening a new phase of cooperation between Vietnam and Egypt.
