Saud Abdulhamid suffered an unusual incident in Amsterdam, putting the Saudi Arabian defender at risk of missing the World Cup 2026 squad selection.

Abdulhamid encountered an unexpected problem before his departure to the United States.

The Saudi Arabian Football Federation confirmed that right-back Saud Abdulhamid lost his passport after a theft occurred in Amsterdam (Netherlands) on May 25th.

The player, who was playing for Lens, traveled to the Netherlands with his family for his wedding when his car was broken into.

According to the federation's announcement, several of Abdulhamid's personal belongings were stolen, including his passport. The incident prevented the player from boarding his planned flight back to Riyadh to join the Saudi Arabian national team before their trip to the United States to prepare for the 2026 World Cup.

"The Saudi Arabian Football Federation is working with the Ministry of Sport and the Saudi Arabian Embassy in the Netherlands to assist the player in completing the necessary paperwork," the announcement stated.

The Saudi Arabian national team is expected to train in New York and Texas in the coming weeks, and play three friendly matches before the World Cup. Coach Giorgios Donis has not yet announced the official squad, but Abdulhamid is among the preliminary 30 players called up.

The 27-year-old defender is considered one of Saudi Arabia's key players in recent years. His delayed arrival has somewhat affected the West Asian team's preparation for the biggest tournament on the planet.

Saudi Arabia is in Group H along with Spain, Uruguay, and Cape Verde. They will play their opening match against Uruguay on June 15th at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.

The Saudi Arabian Football Federation has affirmed that it will provide maximum support to Abdulhamid during the period of resolving the incident, and is looking forward to the player's safe return to the national team as soon as possible.
