Ever since he was studying at the University of Theatre and Cinema, artist Xuan Hinh showed his acting ability and after graduating was kept to teach but he refused because he wanted to be free to fly and perform on stage.

1988 marked Xuan Hinh's first success when he participated in the famous clown act Cu Sut in the Laughter Festival, performing for 2 months at the Vietnam - Soviet Union Friendship Cultural Palace, receiving enthusiastic cheers from the audience.

From that success, Xuan Hinh continued to venture into the stage of cheo and comedy and reaped many resounding achievements with a series of performances such as Fortune Teller Goes to Market, Clown Follows the Master with a Stick, Clown Fights, Thi Mau Goes to the Temple, Horse Man - Horse Man, Husband and Wife ...

During the late 90s and early 2000s, Xuan Hinh dominated the Northern comedy market. He was one of the few Northern artists who had success in the field of CDs and was dubbed the "king of CDs and DVDs" because his comedy tapes sold very well. At that time, almost every household bought Xuan Hinh's CDs and DVDs to watch.

Xuan Hinh's comedies have become indispensable spiritual food in the public's entertainment life.

With the ability to sing many musical genres such as Cheo, Xam, Chau Van... along with a simple yet satirical performance, the male artist's works always contain profound meanings revolving around life issues, receiving the love of many generations of audiences.

Therefore, the audience affectionately calls Xuan Hinh "King of Cheo clowns", "King of tapes and discs", "King of Northern comedy"... however, the male artist only humbly admits that he is "a folk entertainer".

"Because I represent the poor, the simple people who are easy to approach and easy to meet. I struggle with the lives of the working, hard-working people. I sympathize with the situation of the working people," he shared with Dan Tri reporter.

For Xuan Hinh, an artist must have works to leave behind for life and serve the people. Those works must have an impact on society. To do that, the artist must go through bitterness, even resentment.

Xuan Hinh is also a notorious manager and fair with artists. Remembering that golden age, the male artist shared that he was a famous manager who never failed, never encountered wind and rain, and wherever he went, the audience was packed like ants. The audience filled the stadium.

"There was a time when I took a performance troupe from the North to the Central region, going in one direction, through all the provinces. Banners were stretched from Hanoi to the Central region, each province had countless banners.

I remember the time I brought the group to Vinh ( Nghe An ), by 4 pm, 10,000 tickets had been sold out. That night, the show sold 15,000 tickets. Nearly 20 years ago, there were terrible shows like that.

When I went to Ha Tinh , people lined up to buy tickets and CDs. There was an old lady who took a motorbike taxi and traveled nearly 70 km just to… ask to take a photo with me. So many memories!", Xuan Hinh said.

Compared by People's Artist Hong Van to the "treasure" of the art world, artist Xuan Hinh's early retirement in 2017 made many colleagues and audiences regretful.

40 years of dedication, retired and living a simple life, no People's Artist title

40 years of dedication to art, 40 years of "bombarding" the comedy stages in the North, artist Xuan Hinh not only wins the hearts of the people but also receives high appreciation from colleagues for his talent and lifestyle.

However, 26 years have passed since he was awarded the title of Meritorious Artist, but up to now, Xuan Hinh is still "absent" from the list of candidates for the title of People's Artist, making the public curious and regretful.

In fact, the male comedian has avoided many press questions surrounding the title issue.

Dan Tri reporter contacted Xuan Hinh and he said that this year the male artist did not apply for the title of People's Artist. For a long time he has... not cared about the title!?

When asked why Xuan Hinh did not apply for the title of People's Artist, the male artist refused to answer. He said: "I am happy to be a people's artist."

Behind the stage lights and comedy productions, the audience encounters a Xuan Hinh with simple everyday images next to gardens and fish ponds. Not only raising fish, Xuan Hinh also shares many photos of wading in the mud to catch crabs, snails or grow vegetables and clean the house to help his wife.

Considered a "tycoon" of the Northern comedy scene, possessing an impressive fortune accumulated after many years of working, but at retirement age, the comedian enjoys a leisurely life with rustic hobbies.

Xuan Hinh still maintains a simple life. He often appears with a simple, even somewhat sloppy appearance.

Xuan Hinh shared with Dan Tri reporter that material things or the extravagance in the art world, or the contrasting roles on stage are all outside the family door.

For him, happiness and peace are family, moments with his wife and children.
