Navy Region 1 proactively responds to storm No. 3 (Wipha)

The Naval Region 1 Command has directed and deployed many proactive and active measures to prevent storm No. 3 (Wipha), especially units in the Hai Phong and Quang Ninh areas.

Agencies and units in the entire region maintain 100% of their military personnel on combat readiness; organize officers and soldiers to quickly tie down houses and warehouses, trim trees, clear drainage ditches, etc. Coordinate with local authorities in response and rescue plans when necessary.

At sea, the Regional Command has directed Brigade 169 and Brigade 170 to mobilize over 30 boats to safe storm shelters. The units are required to grasp the storm's developments, review, adjust, and supplement storm prevention plans, search and rescue plans, and specific plans for each force when situations arise, especially ensuring safety and minimizing damage caused by the storm.

On this occasion, the Head of the Regional Command awarded certificates of merit to collectives and individuals with outstanding achievements in performing the search and rescue mission of the tourist ship QN-7105 (Green Bay 58).

Faced with the complicated developments and intensification of storm No. 3, in the afternoon and evening of July 20, localities in the storm-affected area, especially the provinces from Quang Ninh to Thanh Hoa, resolutely implemented response measures to ensure the lives and property of the people and the State.

According to the Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, at 4:00 a.m. on July 21, the center of storm No. 3 (storm Wipha) was located at about 21.5 degrees North latitude; 110.4 degrees East longitude, in the northern area of Leizhou peninsula (China), about 275km east of Quang Ninh - Hai Phong . The strongest wind is level 9, gusting to level 11. The storm is moving West Southwest, at a speed of 15-20km/h.

In the next 24 hours, Typhoon Wipha will move west-southwest at a speed of 15km/h and is likely to strengthen. It is forecasted that at 4am on July 22, Typhoon Wipha will enter the Gulf of Tonkin at level 10-11, gusting to level 14.
