At the invitation of the Russian Federation's Ministry of Defense , the Vietnamese Ministry of Defense sent forces to participate in the parade commemorating the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War in the Russian Federation. This marks the first time the Vietnam People's Army has participated in a parade abroad.

The contingent consists of approximately 80 members, including 68 soldiers who are cadets from the Army Officer School 1 participating in the parade, along with reserve members, supervising leaders, training instructors, doctors, interpreters, and security personnel.

According to the VNA correspondent in Moscow, the delegation was divided into three flight groups, and after 20 hours of flying, the entire delegation arrived in Moscow on the night of April 24 (Moscow time), safely and in good health. During the training days, the delegation was welcomed by the Russian Ministry of Defense, which arranged accommodation and meals at a facility of the ministry located 60km from the capital. This was also the accommodation for the delegations from China, Laos, and Myanmar.

Upon arriving in Moscow, the soldiers immediately faced the challenge of the weather. Despite prior warnings, the continuously dropping temperatures, from 25°C on April 24th to 10°C on April 25th and even further down to 0°C in the following days, proved difficult, especially since the unit began training intensely three times a day. The final training session ended at 9 PM.

Speaking to a VNA reporter in the Russian Federation, Major General Nguyen Van Thanh, Deputy Head of the Army Officer School 1 and head of the delegation, said that upon being assigned the task, the entire delegation was determined to do their utmost to bring the image of Vietnam, its people, and the Vietnam People's Army to friends around the world .

According to Major General Nguyen Van Thanh, the difficulties are not unexpected, as they will have to face differences in time zones and temperature conditions, while the soldiers need to maintain very good physical condition for the parade.

With the attention of the Ministry of Defense leadership, the delegation was prepared and brought appropriate military equipment, medicine, and especially food to ensure that the soldiers had Vietnamese meals every day, making it easier for them to get used to the local food.

Another difficulty the delegation overcame was the difference in parade standards. Lieutenant Colonel Ho Si Quang, head of the drill and ceremony department at the Army Officer School 1, said that the marching speed in Russia is 120 steps per minute, while in Vietnam it is 106 steps.

Thus, the Vietnamese parade team had to make a concerted effort to change the pace in a short period of time. To date, the quality of training has gradually improved day by day, hour by hour, and has been highly appreciated by the Ministry's leadership.

Every day, the entire delegation trains according to their own program at their respective facilities, but on days of joint training, they must move to the training ground. Accommodation, transportation, and especially security are meticulously and strictly ensured by the Russian side.

High determination was the prevailing sentiment among all the soldiers and officers of this special "mission." The delegation also received timely encouragement from the diplomatic missions and the Defense Attaché Office in the Russian Federation.

On April 28, Vietnamese Ambassador to Russia Dang Minh Khoi visited and welcomed the entire delegation attending the most important event of the fraternal Russian people - the victory over fascism. Ambassador Dang Minh Khoi emphasized that this event demonstrates the profound and enduring traditional friendship between Vietnam and the former Soviet Union, now the Russian Federation, which has spanned many generations and continues to be passed down through generations.

The participation of the Vietnam People's Army in the parade on Red Square demonstrates the international proletarian solidarity between the Vietnam People's Army and the Russian Federation Army, as well as the people of the two countries, and shows Vietnam's positive contribution to maintaining peace and stability in the region and the world.

The military personnel sent by the Vietnam People's Army to Russia to participate in this year's parade are officers and cadets from the Army Officer School 1, aged 19-30, with a height of 1.80m or more, a well-proportioned physique, and capable of performing drill movements quickly, strongly, and accurately.

According to plan, on May 9th, the Russian Federation will hold a military parade on Red Square to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the victory over fascism. To date, leaders from 19 countries and territories have announced their participation. Many countries have sent military delegations to participate in the parade on May 9th.
