Speaking at the parade, President Putin expressed his gratitude for the sacrifices of the veterans of the Great Patriotic War, the soldiers and civilians who fell in the wars against neo-fascism, in the just war for Russia.
“ May 9th is always a deeply emotional day. Every family honors its heroes, looking at photos, at beloved faces, remembering loved ones, stories of how they fought, how they worked. Victory Day unites all generations. We are moving forward, relying on centuries-old traditions, and we believe that together we will ensure a free and secure future for Russia, for our united people! Glory to the brave armed forces! To Russia! To victory! ” Putin emphasized.
The Russian Defense Ministry said more than 9,000 soldiers and about 75 weapons systems and military equipment were mobilized to participate in the parade in Moscow. Units participating in Russia's special military operation in Ukraine also sent representatives to the event.
This year's event was significantly scaled down compared to previous years. The most recent Victory Day parade in 2023 in Red Square brought together over 10,000 Russian servicemen and 125 units of ground military equipment. Due to weather and other reasons, the Russian Air Force did not have a show of force at the event as it did last year.
In addition to the capital Moscow, Victory Day parades were also held in 25 other cities with headquarters of Russia's military districts, fleets and combined armed forces.
