April 26th is a very special day for BIDV people. From that special milestone, in April this year - 2025, BIDV will celebrate its 68th birthday (April 26, 1957 - April 26, 2025). Over 68 years of establishment and development, above all, BIDV has always demonstrated its position as a leading bird, rushing through storms with a spirit of enthusiasm and courage. Just looking at the 4 name changes: Vietnam Construction Bank (1957 - 1981); Vietnam Investment and Construction Bank (1981 - 1990); Vietnam Investment and Development Bank (1990 - 2012) and Vietnam Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Investment and Development (2012 - present), is enough to show the noble tasks and missions of each period that BIDV was assigned by the Party, State, Government, Ministry of Finance and State Bank.
And no matter what name it has, BIDV has always been the bank that plays the leading role in capital mobilization, contributing to the development of the country's increasingly prosperous economy . Through its capital, BIDV's brand has been increasingly identified and shined through lifetime works that have stood the test of time, such as: Bac Hung Hai Irrigation Project, Bach Dang Shipyard, Viet Tri Paper Factory... in the period of 1957 - 1981. Especially during this period, the bank was assigned the task of allocating capital for defense works such as: B.12 oil pipeline, Ho Chi Minh road, Ho Chi Minh road at sea... The contributions of the Vietnam Construction Bank at that time together with the whole country created the Great Spring Victory in April 1975, and today, the whole country is joyfully celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification. Then the North-South unified railway running all four seasons of joy, Chuong Duong bridge, Thang Long bridge, Bach Ho oil rig... period 1981-1990...
The more the country's economy develops, innovates and integrates, the more BIDV's role and tasks are constantly changing to keep up with and meet new requirements. The period 1990 - 2012 under the name of Investment and Development Bank can be said to be a period of transformation to a new and strong development model. In particular, from 2012 to present, with the name of Vietnam Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Investment and Development, only four words "joint stock commercial" were added, but that was the important point that made BIDV's strong and outstanding development in the integration process with fundamental and substantial changes in mechanism, ownership and operation method after successful equitization.

Not only is BIDV the oldest bank in Vietnam, it has also developed strongly, alongside many major banking brands in the region and globally.
During the opening period, when many commercial banks were still struggling to find a way to develop, BIDV "set sail on the open sea" to conquer foreign markets, established branches, opened representative offices, and was a bridge connecting Vietnamese enterprises with markets in countries in the region.
