BHG - From vacant, abandoned plots of land, with ineffective corn cultivation, Mr. Giàng Seo Chô, Nan Ma village, Nan Ma commune (Xin Man) boldly converted them into a year-round green vegetable garden. Over the past 3 years, vegetable plants have brought in a significant source of income, helping Mr. Chô's family escape poverty and become a typical economic development household in the commune.
Previously, Mr. Cho's family mainly lived on growing rice and corn in one crop, with unstable income, just enough to cover living expenses. In 2022, through the commune's propaganda session on the program of renovating mixed gardens and developing commodity agriculture , Mr. Cho began converting 1 hectare of ineffective production land to grow vegetables such as: Chinese cabbage, Chinese cabbage, kohlrabi and cabbage. Thanks to his diligence in learning safe vegetable growing techniques and the attention of local authorities, after just the first crop, Mr. Cho earned more than 10 million VND, double the value compared to growing corn on the same area. Giang Seo Cho shared: “When we first started renovating the mixed garden, the local authorities supported my family with 3 million VND to buy seeds and necessary equipment and tools. At first, I was worried about the output of the products, but seeing the vegetables grow well and sell for a good price, I had more motivation to continue. Thanks to growing clean vegetables, I have more money to buy household items, take care of my children's education and cover living expenses.

Currently, each crop of vegetables, Mr. Cho grows nearly 1 hectare, regularly supplying the commune market, the central market of Xin Man district and some local restaurants that need to order. On average, each year, he earns about 70 - 80 million VND from selling vegetables. Mr. Cho said: “The family grows vegetables seasonally, “each season - that vegetable”, however, depending on the demand and weather, we can grow additional off-season vegetables to rotate and supply to the market regularly. In addition to growing vegetables, Mr. Cho also expanded the area of ginger cultivation, 150 blood plum trees and raised pigs and buffaloes. Not only is he good at economics, Mr. Cho also actively shares his experience in growing vegetables with the villagers. Many households, after seeing the effectiveness of Mr. Cho’s model, boldly followed, improved their land, and switched to growing clean vegetables. “Currently, Nan Ma village has formed a regular vegetable material area, we hope to cooperate with companies and businesses in consuming products to have a stable, sustainable and long-term output. From there, it will bring income to farmers in the following years…” Mr. Cho confided.
In 2023, Mr. Cho's family was among the poor households in the village. With great efforts, in 2024, his family escaped poverty and gradually rose up. In addition to being a leading party member in renovating mixed gardens and developing the economy, Mr. Cho is also an exemplary police officer of the commune. He is the head of the security team of Nan Ma village, always enthusiastic in his work, actively participating in emulation movements at the grassroots level, ensuring security and order in the area. Comrade Sung Minh Thanh, Vice Chairman of Nan Ma Commune People's Committee, said: “Mr. Cho is a person who dares to think, dares to do and is very decisive. For many years, Mr. Giang Seo Cho's family has been recognized by the locality as a cultured family and has excellent achievements in economic development. From Mr. Cho's example, the mixed garden renovation program in the commune has spread and brought about effectiveness. In his work, Mr. Cho has always been a role model and has been commended for many years, thanks to which he is trusted and loved by the people in the village and commune."
