For the first time at a FIFA tournament, referees will wear body cameras and broadcast selected footage live to viewers.
In addition, a new version of semi-automatic offside technology, combining artificial intelligence, multiple cameras and ball sensors will also be deployed to speed up the referee's decision-making process. While still maintaining VAR supervision of referee decisions.
FIFA previously successfully conducted enhanced offside technology trials at the Intercontinental Cup last December and at a number of youth tournaments.
The technology emits a rapid audio signal into the assistant referee's ear, instructing them to raise their flag more quickly in clear offside situations. FIFA says the system will "track the position of the player and the ball, providing an automatic, real-time warning to the referee in the event of a clear offside situation."
Pierluigi Collina, chairman of FIFA's referees committee, said: "I am sure that among the 117 referees selected for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, it will be very exciting to be one of the referees participating in this tournament for the first time. This is because they will become part of football history.
These innovations demonstrate FIFA's commitment to using technology and improving the overall football experience, with a particular focus on increasing transparency and understanding of refereeing decisions."
The 2025 Club World Cup will kick off on June 15, with 32 teams from around the world taking part. The opening match between Lionel Messi's home team Inter Miami and Al Ahly will take place at Hard Rock Stadium at 5am on June 15.
