We are pleased to welcome the CEO of WWF Offices, the WWF US leader, and the WWF Vietnam leader to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment . Deputy Minister Le Cong Thanh respectfully acknowledged WWF as one of the Ministry's important international partners in many areas of cooperation, including: nature conservation, biodiversity, ocean plastic waste, and climate change response. WWF has actively supported the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment in participating in: the 28th Conference of Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28) in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the 15th Conference of Parties to the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity (COP15) in Canada. At the same time, the two sides have jointly implemented many other cooperation projects.

Mr. Prasanna De Silva respectfully thanked the Deputy Minister and, on this occasion, extended his congratulations to the new Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, Mr. Do Duc Duy. Mr. Prasanna De Silva stated that WWF has always worked closely with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment in cooperative activities in Vietnam. The two sides have implemented many dynamic projects and programs such as reducing ocean plastic waste, mitigating environmental pollution, and responding to climate change.
Sharing with Mr. Prasanna De Silva, Deputy Minister Le Cong Thanh stated that WWF has been present in Vietnam for over 30 years, and for more than 20 years since the establishment of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, the two sides have had a strong cooperation. During that 30-year period, Vietnam has undertaken reforms, achieving many socio -economic successes, but also revealing negative environmental consequences. The Vietnamese government has set the motto "We will not sacrifice the environment for economic growth at all costs" and has concretized this in various laws and decrees. The Deputy Minister expressed his hope that WWF would join hands with Vietnam in general and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment in particular to promote solutions to plastic waste issues, especially marine plastic waste; strengthen the management of the plastic lifecycle, encourage plastic reuse, and sort household solid waste at source.

Agreeing with the Deputy Minister's proposal, Mr. Prasanna De Silva stated that WWF plays a crucial role in working with the Vietnamese Government to combat plastic waste. WWF hopes to work with Vietnam and other countries towards the upcoming Global Agreement on Plastic Pollution. In addition, Mr. Prasanna De Silva expressed his willingness to cooperate with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and other relevant ministries and agencies in applying technology to natural monitoring and biodiversity conservation.
Regarding this matter, Deputy Minister Le Cong Thanh stated that the Vietnamese Government is very interested in digital transformation. The application of technology in nature conservation and biodiversity is a field with great potential. The Deputy Minister requested the Department of Nature Conservation and Biodiversity to pay attention to this issue.
Deputy Minister Le Cong Thanh and Mr. Prasanna De Silva both agreed that WWF is an important and reliable partner of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment. The two sides will continue to deepen their relationship and develop more specific and practical programs and projects to help Vietnam achieve green and sustainable growth.
