Dak Koi Commune attracts investment in community tourism development

Koi To Waterfall and primeval forest of Dak Koi commune have potential for developing eco-tourism and resorts.

Along Provincial Road 677, the road winds around the mountainside, following the gentle Dak Koi River, revealing peaceful villages amidst the deep green forest. The overlapping mountain ranges, primeval forests blend with the Koi To waterfall to create a wild and charming natural picture.

Promoting tourism investment attraction

The road to Trang No Kon Blo village, Dak Koi commune crosses a long suspension bridge connecting the two banks of the Dak Koi river. The winding concrete road connects the village to Koi To waterfall, which is closer. September comes, and the terraced fields are in the golden ripening season, stretching out hidden among the clouds.

More than 50km from Kon Tum ward, Koi To waterfall is more than 700m above sea level and is surrounded by a vast primeval forest. From the top of the mountain, the white waterfall like "the hair of a mountain girl" stretches along the foot of the mountain, creating a poetic and majestic landscape.

Elder A B Lien, former Secretary of Dak Koi Commune (old) shared: For many years, villagers have wished for Koi To waterfall and Dak Koi ecological forest area to become a tourist destination. Now that the commune has been renewed, the cadres are closer to the village and the people, hopefully the village's wish will come true.

Dak Koi commune merged from two communes Dak Koi and Dak To Lung, with an area of over 450km ² . The whole commune has over 5,800 people, mainly Xo Dang people. Shaping a new direction, Dak Koi commune determined to make a breakthrough in the tourism and service sector to improve people's lives and motivate socio -economic development. From the master plan of Quang Ngai province, the local government accelerated zoning planning, attracting investment to exploit the potential of eco-tourism and resorts associated with promoting traditional culture and revolutionary historical relics.

According to Dak Koi Commune Party Secretary Nguyen Van Thuy: “We are focusing on zoning, attracting investment in exploiting eco-tourism and resorts associated with local cultural and historical values. Currently, a number of businesses are interested in surveying investment in community tourism and eco-tourism.”

Reviving community tourism

With its rich natural resources and rich cultural identity, Dak Koi commune has the foundation to develop sustainable community tourism. Traditional festivals such as the water trough worship ceremony, communal house celebration, new rice celebration, buffalo stabbing ceremony, bamboo rat eating ceremony, etc., combined with the xoang dance and the echoing gong sounds, have become the "soul" of the Xo Dang people here.

In addition, the historical relic of Kon Braih fortress victory, H16 District Party Committee revolutionary base, Dak Koi iron smelter, Dak To victory relic site... create unique cultural-historical highlights, attracting tourists to explore the depth of highland culture.

In Trang No Kon Blo village, Dak Koi commune, there are nearly 150 Xo Dang households, mainly farming and raising livestock on a small scale. “Recently, commune officials surveyed the area and discussed with people preparing for tourism. I hope to participate soon to have more family income to take care of my children's education,” said Ms. Y Hon.

Developing community tourism is expected to help people in mountainous areas improve their quality of life.

In the new context and space, the Party Committee and the Dak Koi Commune government have identified promoting community tourism as a fundamental, long-term solution for socio-economic development. Currently, the local government is surveying and planning about 30 hectares to form a highland eco-tourism area.

The locality mobilizes and attracts investment in a number of industries and services that are suitable to the potential and natural resources of Dak Koi. At the same time, it encourages people to participate in the community tourism chain - models of accommodation, stops, cuisine, and typical products. The commune also aims to connect tours with neighboring tourist destinations, creating an inter-regional tourism space.

Mr. A Trung said: “I work as a militia in the commune, my wife works on the farm and her income is not stable. I hope that soon there will be a business to build the Koi To waterfall tourist area so that my wife can run a homestay and sell specialties to serve tourists.”

By 2030, Dak Koi mountainous commune strives to achieve a total production value of 809 billion VND, with trade and services accounting for 29%. The mountainous commune expects to collect 60 billion VND in budget revenue, with an average income of 63 million VND/person per year. “Dak Koi commune is near Mang Den tourist area, so we can connect and participate in inter-regional tourism chains. Currently, the commune is making efforts to attract investment, creating all favorable conditions for businesses to accompany the locality in exploiting tourism and service potential, contributing to sustainable socio-economic development,” affirmed Dak Koi commune Party Secretary Nguyen Van Thuy.
