The author of the trilogy Ants - The Day of the Ants - The Ant Revolution said that in La Fontaine's fables, ants work very hard, while cicadas only sing.
But his observations of ants as a science journalist showed that 1/3 of the ants did not work, 1/3 worked but very clumsily, only causing hindrances. Only the remaining 1/3 worked hard and effectively to correct the mistakes of the clumsy 1/3, helping to operate the entire society.
