Awarding the UNESCO Director General with the Medal "For the Cause of Vietnamese Diplomacy"

On the morning of June 28, at the Government Headquarters, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son received Ms. Audrey Azoulay, Director General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

At the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son shared four breakthrough pillars in the era of national development, asking UNESCO to continue to accompany in policy consulting, improving the quality of human resources, strengthening public-private partnerships, especially in emerging fields such as AI, semiconductors, renewable energy and scientific data.

Expressing her impression of Vietnam's strategic vision and its potential to become a regional knowledge and innovation hub, Ms. Audrey Azoulay emphasized that UNESCO is ready to cooperate to build a Regional Training Center on AI in Vietnam, as well as support the establishment of UNESCO Chair (International cooperation mechanism between universities and UNESCO) on AI and data science at Vietnamese universities, and public-private partnerships with Vietnamese corporations in knowledge-based development initiatives.

In particular, Director General Audrey Azoulay agreed with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister's proposal that UNESCO continue to support efforts to preserve and register world heritage sites, especially supporting the restoration of Kinh Thien Palace and the main space of Kinh Thien Palace at Thang Long Imperial Citadel as soon as possible, supporting the registration of the Yen Tu - Vinh Nghiem - Con Son, Kiep Bac Monuments and Landscape Complex and supporting the construction of nomination dossiers such as Co Loa Citadel, Oc Eo - Ba The archaeological site, Con Moong Cave, and Cu Chi Tunnels.

On this occasion, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son presented Ms. Audrey Azoulay with the Medal “For the Cause of Vietnamese Diplomacy”, recognizing not only the Director General’s contributions to the protection and promotion of Vietnamese cultural heritage, but also affirming the strategic partnership between Vietnam and UNESCO.
