Ms. Katơr Thị Sín’s family in Gia E village is currently cultivating 7 sao of green-skinned grapefruit and orphaned banana. Ms. Sín shared: The climate in Phuoc Binh is very suitable for the growth of green-skinned grapefruit and orphaned banana trees. Realizing the above advantages, my family decided to intercrop 200 green-skinned grapefruit trees and 42 orphaned banana trees. Unlike regular banana varieties, orphaned banana varieties have the characteristic of only regenerating by seeds, bananas grow and develop well in high mountainous areas. Bananas only produce one bunch, each bunch can yield 3 to 4 kg of seeds; dried banana seeds are sold for 60,000-70,000 VND/kg, at times selling for nearly 100,000 VND/kg, thereby helping to stabilize the family economy.

Realizing the economic efficiency of orphan banana trees, many establishments and cooperatives in the commune are promoting cooperation with farmers to grow and purchase products. Ms. Tran Thi Thuy, owner of an orphan banana purchasing establishment in Hanh Rac 2 village, said: Every year, my establishment purchases 1-1.2 tons of banana seeds and then processes them into fresh fruit, dried seeds, dried pressed fruit, etc. The products of the establishment after purchasing are distributed to many places in the country, thereby helping to bring a stable source of income to many households.
Mr. Da Rot Ha Phuoc, Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Phuoc Binh Commune, said: Orphaned banana is a typical crop in the locality, the tree mainly grows naturally on high mountains and partly is planted by people on the slopes of fields with an area of about 20 hectares. This is a precious banana variety with many medicinal uses, known as the "panacea" of the Raglai people. To avoid overharvesting, in recent times, Phuoc Binh National Park has researched breeding in nurseries for conservation. Currently, some farmers in the commune have been transferred breeding techniques to grow on field land. In 2020, Phuoc Binh Orphaned Banana product was recognized as a 3-star OCOP product at the provincial level, this is good news for people in the highlands, thereby helping many people know about Phuoc Binh Orphaned Banana. Identifying this as a crop that contributes to increasing income for local people, in the coming time, the commune will continue to promote and encourage local people to expand the area of orphan banana cultivation to diversify crops in the commune, helping local people develop the economy and stabilize their lives.
