Coach Alonso still maintains that Real need more midfielders. |
According to ESPN , coach Xabi Alonso sent a clear message to President Florentino Perez, that Real Madrid urgently needs a new midfielder if Dani Ceballos leaves.
Ceballos was barely a part of Alonso’s plans in the first two La Liga games, coming off the bench. After the match against Oviedo, the 29-year-old midfielder made headlines when he posted the message “The Last Dance” on social media, sparking rumours that he was about to leave the Santiago Bernabeu. Marseille has emerged as the most likely destination, although Real Madrid will only agree if they find a worthy replacement.
This summer, the Spanish Royal team spent more than 200 million euros to bring in Trent Alexander-Arnold, Alvaro Carreras, Dean Huijsen and Franco Mastantuono. However, none of them could fill the gap in midfield after Luka Modric left for AC Milan.
Options such as bringing Nico Paz back from Como or giving young talent Thiago Pitarch a chance have been considered, but Alonso's priority remains an experienced midfielder who can contribute immediately.
In fact, the midfield led by Arda Guler, Valverde and Tchouaméni played quite well, but the tight schedule in La Liga and the Champions League required greater depth. ESPN experts commented: "Real Madrid cannot afford to lose a quality player without a suitable replacement."
With the transfer window closing, the pressure is on Real Madrid's board. A quick and accurate decision will determine not only Ceballos' future but also the tactical balance of Xabi Alonso's project.
