Through inspection and assessment, the entire melon field area had worms crawling on the surface of about 15 sao of 6 households. When digging up the soil to check (the surrounding field edge area), the worms were found to be very healthy, not dead, and had a high density of worms. The soil in the field was loose and rich in humus, very favorable for worms to grow and develop.

The phenomenon of large numbers of worms crawling to the surface of the ground lasted from about 6am to nearly 8am.

Initially, the experts determined that the phenomenon of worms crawling up to the ground originated from the following reasons: People use fertilizer (chicken manure) to fertilize melon plants, so during the decomposition process, it will generate heat, causing the soil to become hot and lack air in the soil. Along with that, households use nylon to cover the beds of melon plants with high density, which also reduces the air in the soil, causing worms to crawl up to the ground to breathe.

In the melon field area, the worms are very healthy, do not die, the worm density is high and the soil in the field is loose, rich in humus, very favorable for the worms to grow and develop.

In addition, the weather has changed recently, during the day it is sunny and the humidity is low, combined with fertilization which reduces the air in the soil, causing worms to come to the surface in large numbers. When the weather is hot and sunny, worms go back underground around the edge of the field.

The district’s professional agency also confirmed that worms are very good for the soil. The worms coming to the surface of the soil is a normal phenomenon that does not affect production.

Professional agencies of Ham Yen district and Thanh Long commune authorities inspected and initially determined the cause of the phenomenon of many worms crawling to the ground in Trung Thanh 1 village.

The district's professional agencies also came to inspect the landslide that affected the house of Mr. Dang Van Dap, Trung Thanh village 1, Thanh Long commune, about 100 meters from the melon field where worms crawled up to the ground. Through assessment, this landslide happened on September 12, far from the melon field, so it had nothing to do with the phenomenon of worms crawling up to the ground.

Ham Yen district's professional agencies have inspected and confirmed that the landslide (about 100 meters from the melon field where worms crawled up to the ground) has nothing to do with the phenomenon of worms crawling up to the ground.

The local government has also directed the officials of Trung Thanh 1 village to continue to propagate so that people do not panic, avoid superstitious activities that affect security and order, and take measures to protect against bad guys from stealing worms and destroying the soil environment in this area. At the same time, continue to closely monitor this phenomenon, if there are any abnormalities, it is necessary to notify early to have appropriate solutions, to avoid public panic.
