On the afternoon of June 1st, the Government's Electronic Information Portal organized a seminar titled "Is the use of E10 gasoline a cause for concern?". On June 1st, 2026, E10 bio-gasoline will officially be distributed and sold nationwide, replacing traditional gasoline according to Circular 50.
According to experts, the implementation of a roadmap for the use of biofuels is a global trend, consistent with the practical conditions of our country, stemming from the requirements of sustainable development, ensuring energy security, protecting the environment, and fulfilling Vietnam's international commitments on reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Many countries around the world are already using E10, E15, and even E20 gasoline. Mr. Do Van Tuan, Chairman of the Vietnam Biofuel Association , stated: "Currently, about 65 countries and territories, representing approximately 97% of the world's population, are using biofuels. Biofuels are practically available to almost the entire world population."
Mr. Do Van Tuan cited the example of the US, where E10 gasoline usage reaches 98%. In Europe, E10 gasoline is widely used. In Asia, countries like China, India, the Philippines, and Thailand all use E10 gasoline. Japan is very cautious, but also has a roadmap to use E10 gasoline by 2027. "Thus, in the regions and countries where it is widely used around the world, E10 has mostly become the standard gasoline," Mr. Tuan affirmed.
Many countries around the world have been using biofuels for many years, and we have learned a lot from them. Mr. Tuan analyzed that, firstly, our country doesn't miss out on the trial because other countries have already tested this type of fuel. E10 has been used in the US since 1985, so we are not a testing ground but can immediately use a product that the world has already tested.
Secondly, petroleum products have very high international standards. E10 gasoline in Vietnam and abroad has basically the same standards, differing only in certain additives. Therefore, "we don't need a transition process; we don't need time to reassess the effectiveness of E10 gasoline on the overall picture of usage and economics ," Mr. Tuan emphasized.

Adding to this point, Mr. Bui Ngoc Bao, Chairman of the Vietnam Petroleum Association, stated: "In terms of technical aspects and infrastructure preparation, although this product is widely used in the region and around the world, we should not forget to conduct trials to assess its suitability for Vietnamese conditions."
According to Mr. Bui Ngoc Bao, "we have put in the effort, with scientists and economists involved, to assess whether these products are suitable for Vietnamese conditions. Alongside that, we have also issued technical regulations and standards. It can be said that the technical standards for E5 and E10 gasoline are completely identical to those of conventional gasoline, in almost all aspects."
Besides the RON (Revving) coefficient, the most important factor for gasoline is the distillation process. This means boiling at the beginning and then distilling 10%, 50%, 90%, etc. This is the factor that determines combustion efficiency, engine starting speed, and acceleration.
"The basic specifications are all based on conventional gasoline. This means that the technical specifications are completely identical. The only difference is that adding ethanol will result in a higher oxygen content, and therefore a hotter combustion," Mr. Bao stated.
