Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Minh Canh said: In order to promote the potential and strengths of the province, the Resolution of the 11th Provincial Party Congress for the 2020 - 2025 term set out the task of building the Project "Developing Cho Lach seedlings and ornamental flowers at the national level" to create a strong impetus for investment and production orientation for the plant and ornamental flower industry, quickly creating new plant and ornamental flower varieties with high economic value, contributing to supporting production, increasing income for seed producers and growers, contributing to improving the lives of rural people, helping them escape poverty in a sustainable way. Aiming to reorganize the production of seedlings and ornamental flowers in Cho Lach district so that Cho Lach district becomes a National Center (region) for seed and ornamental flower production by 2025. Up to now, the results have been 120 parent trees of all kinds and 670 parent tree gardens. Mobilize 3 cooperatives producing seedlings and ornamental flowers to link up in a chain to build a concentrated specialized production area of 133 hectares; develop, appraise and promulgate 8 processes for producing seedlings and ornamental flowers in the province.

At the workshop, delegates focused on discussing and proposing solutions to improve the value chain of Ben Tre seedlings and ornamental flowers; applying science and technology to improve the efficiency of fruit tree seed production; solutions for trade development in improving the quality and efficiency of seedling and ornamental flower production in Ben Tre province; the situation of production and consumption of ornamental flower seedlings in Cho Lach district; advantages and difficulties in the production and business of seedlings and ornamental flowers of enterprises...

The main solutions are to focus on tightening the management of seedling quality in the area; registering production and business; linking in production and product consumption; each production facility raising awareness in producing and trading seedlings in accordance with the law...

It is known that currently, the total number of households producing and trading seedlings in Ben Tre province is about 8,000 households, but only 570 households have registered for production and trading (accounting for 7.13%). Commonly produced seedlings such as: durian, rambutan, mangosteen, mango, longan, jackfruit, and other citrus trees... are concentrated in the districts of Cho Lach, Mo Cay Bac and Chau Thanh. The total annual output of seedlings supplied to the market is over 20 million products of all kinds.

In recent years, the production and trading of ornamental flowers has been constantly growing in terms of the number of households producing and the output supplied to the market. The whole province has 7,907 households producing and trading ornamental flowers; mainly concentrated in Cho Lach district with 6,421 households (accounting for 81.1%), Mo Cay Bac district with 605 households (accounting for 7.6%), Chau Thanh district with 176 households (accounting for 2.4%). Every year, the province supplies the market with 15 - 18 million ornamental flower products of all kinds, mainly yellow apricot, bougainvillea, ornamental animals, bonsai, ornamental leaves, ornamental kumquat and various types of construction trees.
