Building a smart school model to adapt to climate change

During 4 days (May 8-11), the Department of Education and Training organized a training course on smart school models and climate change adaptation.

The training course is part of the emergency support plan to overcome damage and recover after storm No. 3 in Lao Cai province implemented by UNICEF.

The training course lasts 4 days, including 2 days of direct training and 2 days of experience at the school unit.

The training course was attended by specialists from education and training departments, school managers, with priority given to boarding schools for ethnic minorities and schools at high risk of being affected by natural disasters.

With direct training content, educational consultants have conveyed to students many useful modules related to instructions on building smart school models, adapting to climate change, suitable to the actual situation of the locality.

During the field trip, the students will visit Lang Nu School, Phuc Khanh Primary and Secondary School (Bao Yen District), Quang Kim Primary School (Bat Xat District). Here, the class members will conduct communication, discuss and organize some practical activities to build a smart school model, adapting to climate change with the school administrators, teachers, students and parents.

The goal of the training course is for ethnic minority and mountainous schools to know how to build smart school models that adapt to climate change, are suitable to the actual situation of the locality, and minimize damage caused by natural disasters and epidemics.

It is known that the UNICEF-supported Emergency Support Project in Lao Cai includes 3 modules on education, health, and agriculture. The education component has 5 major activities, all of which are aimed at disadvantaged areas affected by natural disasters.
