Major buyers from Hong Kong (China) assess that Vietnamese bird's nests are of higher quality than those from other countries. This could be the premise for making bird's nest products "the best in the world ".
The Department of Industry and Trade, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Ho Chi Minh City, together with agencies and enterprises, organized a signing ceremony to cooperate in building 3 programs at the same time: 1,000 stories of OCOP products (local specialties); Can Gio agricultural product brand; Ho Chi Minh City Commodity Exchange, on the afternoon of August 14.
Sharing at the event, Mr. Truong Tien Trien, Vice Chairman of Can Gio District People's Committee (HCMC) said that the district currently has about 520 bird's nest houses, with an average harvest of 14-15 tons of dry bird's nest per year.
Can Gio bird's nest has been processed into many products, including bird's nest coffee. This OCOP bird's nest specialty is no longer within the borders of districts, cities, or countries, but is trying to reach out to the world.
Mr. Nguyen Quach Nhi, Sales Director of Consumer Food Products (Tiki Company Limited) said that Vietnamese bird's nest is a potential and valuable product. It is estimated that the global bird's nest market is about 8 billion USD, of which the Vietnamese market is 800 million USD.
There are only about 4-5 countries in the world that produce and trade this product, and most major buyers in Hong Kong (China) rate Vietnamese bird's nest as having higher quality. Due to natural conditions, the product also has a stronger taste and aroma.
Can Gio has a very famous Rung Sac mangrove biosphere reserve, suitable for research and development of the bird's nest industry. "With favorable production conditions as well as a market with few competitors, why don't we proactively build a brand for Can Gio bird's nest, Vietnamese bird's nest is the best product in the world. Meanwhile, in 2019, Indonesia exported bird's nests for 3.6 billion USD," said Mr. Nhi.
Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade of Ho Chi Minh City, Mr. Nguyen Nguyen Phuong, admitted that people can buy specialties of other provinces in the city but cannot find specialties of the city itself as gifts.
Therefore, building stories related to products such as bird's nest, to create added value for the product, attract consumers. Further, OCOP products will not only connect in the domestic market but can also be global in scale.
