Speaking at the Government's Standing Committee meeting with outstanding state-owned enterprises on the morning of March 3rd, Mr. Tao Duc Thang, Chairman and General Director of the Military Industry and Telecommunications Group ( Viettel ), said that the group's major strategies were approved very early, demonstrating the Government's attention, closeness, and support.
Mr. Tao Duc Thang, Chairman and CEO of Viettel
In 2024, the corporation identified many favorable conditions ahead. Opportunities arose, especially in the high-tech sector. Government and Prime Minister 's diplomatic trips, as well as visits to Vietnam by large foreign businesses, indicated that many opportunities lay ahead.
However, according to Mr. Thang, alongside the opportunities there will be challenges, therefore ensuring effective business development is something we are particularly concerned about.
To achieve growth, investment is necessary. Therefore, in 2024, Viettel's leadership stated that they will boldly invest heavily in infrastructure, such as transportation infrastructure and digital infrastructure. In particular, 2024 will be a year of major transformation, as 2G will be phased out in September, leaving only 4G and 5G networks. The company will deploy 5G coverage nationwide.
Accordingly, Viettel will invest nearly 30,000 billion VND to expand frequency coverage, including connecting systems to remote areas.
In particular, Viettel will strengthen international cooperation, focusing on building large data centers so that major companies like Amazon and Microsoft can set up data centers in Vietnam.
"The synchronized deployment of 4G and 5G wireless network infrastructure to cover remote areas requires the cooperation of all levels of government, including provincial, district, and commune People's Committees. We need to intensify public awareness campaigns to ensure people understand and support the transition from 2G to 4G," Mr. Thang said, adding that only through such efforts can a synchronized deployment be achieved, helping Vietnam become a nation with a modern digital infrastructure in the not-too-distant future.
